If a cat has a urinary tract infection, would he be urinating all over (in different places throughout the house) or could he be just going in one corner of the closet?

You've already been told most everything else, but I wanted to throw this in (sorry if it's already in here somewhere). When a cat experiences pain while urinating or deficating, it may start to avoid the litter box because it associated the litter box with the pain.

So it could be a UTI. Could be he's unhappy....could be he's just being a pisser;) Ask a vet, and good luck!

Is your cat a male? If so how old is he? If you have a male cat that is not neutered, he may have begun the ritual of spraying your house. If this is not the situation, there may be an infection and the cat should go to the vet. Cats are very clean about their urine so there is a problem of some kinds. If it is not the male issue, stress could be causing the problem.. If it keeps up, the cat needs medical care. This is not normal behavior.

Cats can react differently to the urinary problem. It can be in one place, several places or all over.

#1 reason for inappropriate urination is crystals in the urine or an infection. Rule that out or treat it with the vet ASAP. You want the inappropriate urination to stop as soon as you can.

I had an elderly kitty with a kidney ailment who did this. (He was on special foods for the problem, but ultimately died from it-- major cause of death for elderly male cats...)

I also have a younger female kitty who would sporadically wet on different throw rugs. Her vet told us to try multiple litter boxes in different rooms, using a soft, clumping litter. That worked with her. It seems some cats have a sensitivity to rough cat litter textures AND are very sensitive when their litter box is not clean enough. If you see a pattern like this, make sure you scoop every day & use the multiple boxes.

If the urinating is done in just random areas of the house, and kitty seems to be in pain either while urinating, or when picked up, you need to go to the vet ASAP-- kidney issues!

When my cat had a urinary tract infection, he was having trouble urinating.. If this is the case, bring him to the doctor immediately..

When he started urinating in places other that his litterbox, it was because he was stressed..

I think if your cat has a urinary tract infection, his peepee place will hurt really bad and the urine wont' be normal. It probably won't affect where he/she pees.

Urinating all over the house may be 'spraying': territorial scent marking or a cat who is unhappy with his litterbox.

When cats are unhappy, they tend to urinate in places they shouldn't to show you their "feelings", not always because of a UTI. Usually if it's in one place, it's because the recognize the smell of their urine there and think it's okay to continue to go there.

if he has a urinary tract infection he will be straining wherever he feels like he has to pee...he will not be able to pee very much at any one time due to burning or discomfort...if you think your cat has a urinary tract infection please take him to the vet because if not treated it could be fatal...

My cat went other places when she had a UTI...Take yours to the vet and if I were you, I'd keep it confined to the bathroom with a litterbox until it was no longer sick.
