Sounds like some people need to do some actual research about "pit bulls". FYI cocker spaniels are registered as the dog that bites the most. Pits are very good with children, i have both. they are predisposed to being animal aggresive but NOT towards people unless they have been taught that way or have that trait in that bloodline. Pit bulls were short for this world if they showed any type of human aggresion in their fighting days. When the dogs were to fight the owners of each dog was to wash the other competitors dog to make sure that the coat was not treated with any poisons. This breed of dog have a tremendous history not only in its breed but for its involvment in U.S. History. Its too bad that it has been tarnished by irresponsible owners and peoples inablilty to tell the diffeerence in breeds therefore labling whatever mutt that caused trouble a pit.

Rick - he has the best answer!

My friend had a pit bull that was not around kids until she was 8. That is when my friend had her first child. That dog would do anything not to hurt that baby and would not let anyone near her when my friend was not around. This dog was amazing! A true testament to the breed at how ANY dog should be around children.
PS until her dieing day, this dog let my friends kids jump and climb all over her! (she died at 13, I think. . .) oh - and she had arthritis too!

Pit bulls are just like other dogs. They are only mean if trained to be mean.

No they are not. Pit bulls have this terrible name put upon the breed. They are how you treat them. If you treat them good, in turn they will be great loyal dogs. It's all how you raise em.

Depending on how they are raised,,but keep in mind they have a bloodline of aggression,,it only takes one time for a Pit to have an attitude, and when they bite they bite to the finish,,meanning they will not let go of what they bite till there teeth connect.
If a child pulls on a Pit,,and the Pit is haveing a bad day,,it just might bite the child and not realize it was doing wrong. The temperment of a pit is unpredictable.

dogs are not mean! they are if you make them to be. they just have a bad rep because of the people who portray them that way. everydog can be caring and loving if treated right. some dogs are 'mean' because they may have been abused, or treated badly or were taught to be. but otherwise dogs are wonderful animals.

Some are mean, but any dog can be mean, it depends on how it is trained.

Some are. If you are going to get one, I'd consider not what they will do, but what they are capable of doing.
