What do you mean by opinions? the opinions of the members of the Church or the opinions of those viewing the Church?
Actually, I guess it really doesn't matter. . . both change with each successive Pope. The world sees how the Catholic Church is by it's leader - Everyone loved JPII (and rightly so I might add, he was a great man and did a lot to change the world), but many aren't so impressed with Benedict XVI - though I don't know why. . . he seems to be pretty fair and honest.
The Pope is supposed to change things, that is how we keep from being the same-old same-old, he changes with each and every world event, abortion and stem cell research are but two examples. These weren't a major issue even 50 or 60 years ago, but the Pope is forced to talk about them now - hopefully changing the opinions of the members of the RCC in a positive way that Glorifies God.
He is also changing opinions of how people view the Church - and I hate to use as an example the recent sexual abuse scandle that had gone on. How he handles those priests will have a huge impact on how those outside of the Church view us.
The Pope will diverge from the previous Pope, he can't help it. Remember, he may be the leader of the RCC, the Vicar of Christ on earth, but he is still a man, subject to all the faults and foibles that you and I are subject to. He has his own opinions on how things should be and will make some mistakes, but not in Canon Law or in Church Doctrine, those two things require the approval of many others.
Good question, and I fear that it may have been lost on many people who have posted answers to it.
Peace be with you.

The Catholic church possesses the complete, sum total of all God's revelation and truth.
This sacred deposit of faith has been well known, thoroughly studied, and is the basis for all Catholic dogmas, doctrines, and practices.
Once a matter has been settled, and clearly defined by the church, no one, not even a pope, can do much to change it.
Every pope is a unique individual with a unique personal style, and every pope lives in a different time, with different needs and problems, so there's bound to be some differences between them.
In general though, it's a matter of style, and not one of doctrine.

The Pope is chosen by people (Cardinals) who are members of The Church because he exemplifies the present ideals of The Church.
He usually represents a compromise between modern values and historical values.
He is expected to change things, sometimes more and sometimes less.

OK SO YOU WANT A REAL ANSWER...
ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT MUCH RESPECT FOR ORGANIZED RELIGION I WOULD SAY THAT YES EVERY NEW POPE HAS DIFFERENT OPINIONS ABOUT ISSUES, BUT MOST PEOPLE FOLLOW THEM BLINDLY AND WITHOUT QUESTIONING SO EXPECT LITTLE CRITICISM OR EVALUATION OF THE CONSTANT BUT PAINFULLY SLOW EVOLUTION OF THE CHURCH BELIEFS..
IF YOU ASK ME, THESE SLIGHT VARIATIONS ON THE OPINIONS OF THE POPES ARE WAY TOO SLOW IN KEEPING THE CHURCH UPDATED WITH CURRENT PROBLEMS OF HUMANITY AND IMPORTANT SCIENTIFIC DEVELOPMENTS..
FOR EXAMPLE: POPE PAUL WAS INEXCUSABLY RIGID IN HIS INSISTENCE ON ISSUES OF BIRTH CONTROL.. IN AN AGE WHEN HIV HAS AFFECTED MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, NO PROTECTION DURING SEX SEEMS LIKE THE BIGGEST CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY BY A "LEADER" WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE FOLLOWED BY BILLIONS FOR HIS INSIGHT AND WISDOM..
BUT WHY AM I SURPRISED? MORE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THE NAME OF RELIGION THAN ANY OTHER CAUSE ON THIS PLANET.

There is no power given by GOD to a (not to mention that he is not mentioned in the word/s of GOD) "pope" in the word of GOD !
Beware of the puffed up and the hypocrits and those who's ways are not straigjht, and especialy those who use the word of GOD to decieve.
