Without knowing your age or gender,I will guess you are a female between 11 and 14 and will advise accordingly. Your Dad sounds stressed. And by venting this way he doesn't realize how he,in turn, stresses the rest of the family. He is mad and hurt now because he feels misunderstood and possibly unloved. Go to him at your first opportunity and apologize immediately before he can turn you away. An apology will serve to soften him up and make him more receptive. Sit down and tell him you love him and appreciate everything he does for your family. He should be starting to come around a little by now. Then tell him you understand how hard it must be for him to take care of you all and ask if there is anything you and your brother can do do help make things easier for him. Maybe all he needs is a kind word or two. He may not respond immediately, but he will begin to think about the olive branch you extended and don't be surprised if you get an apology of your own sometime down the line.

It's hard to imagine what stress your dad was under to be complaining about what you call "politics." He must feel frustrated that no one listens to him at his work so he has to let it all out in front of the family in the car where he has a captive audience. You should - though you are not wrong for stating your opinion - apologize for sounding rude, only to break the ice. Your dad knows he was wrong but it may take a real strong person like your self to ease the tension. Ask him why he is so angry and maybe he will explain why he had to blow up in front of you.

What you had was an "adult moment." You're growing up and voicing your own opinion. Don't feel bad about doing that. Unfortunately, parents are thrown off by those "adult moments" from their kids (they will always think you as being about 8 years old). So, he's probably not as mad as he is embarassed. So, go ahead and apologize (not that you need to, it's just to make peace) and from now on carry a pair of earplugs (or an iPod) so you can tune out whenever your dad goes off on a political tangent. Let your mother deal with it. Take care!

No matter how much you wanted your father to stop talking, by the way you wrote what you said, you were probably disrespectful. For that, you need to apologize to your father. Then, maybe you should talk to your mother about being more assertive toward your father, or have your mother tell him how annoying he was. I've always found that if I let my mom do my dirty work things go smoother.
Next time, bring an mp3 player or something to listen to if you don't want to listen to your dad. It is his car, not yours, and he can talk about whatever he wants

Well your dad is nuts for talking about stuff that kids don't care to hear and only should be talked among older people. You did right to tell your dad to shut the F U C K UP, but he just needs some time to relax.

Of course it was bad. Your dad feels the same frustration that I do. (I promise I won't go into detail). We have a fool for a president, our country's lost most of it's credibility (street cred for my little rappin' buddies). The average working man in this country is getting buried deeper in crud and we have NO ONE in the government who's playin ' on our team.
I am truly sorry that your dad is so frustrated.. Ya wanna know what he needs? He needs a lot of love. Give him tons of hugs and tell him how much he means to you. Try not to go negative on the poor guy.
Remember, his boss is a jerk. The government is out to financially destroy him and no one will listen to his point of view. We all need a little respect. Try the loving approach. My wife says it's keeping me settled down.
Thanks for reading this and I'm sorry I got a little too wordy.
Good luck.

Apologizing for interrupting him would help. And what you said is kind of rude. I can understand not wanting to hear it.
Consider carrying an ipod or cd player to listen to while you are in the car.

I would appologize to him. Their car ,their home ,their rules. There are just some things das and moms are permitted to yell about. Don't even think about counseling on a trivial matter like this. It all boils down to he is your dad and do you love him? Also to Leadfoot Willie. Your an idiot.

Apologizing won't do any harm. Once you calm down, tell him how you felt frustrated that he wasn't listening to you. Next time your in the car take turns talking and no one will have to scream to be heard.
