Hi there...consider contacting the local shelters to let them know the description of the kitty so if anyone calls they will be able to let the family know where to contact you. Also be sure to post notices all along where the kitten followed you since cats will travel quite a distance looking for their family. Additionally, many people look for their lost pets on Craigslist (http://www.craigslist.org) and Petfinder.com. You will need to locate your state and nearest city to begin then under the community section place the notice under both the Lost and Found and Pets sections since some people look in both places. Finally, you may be able to look for a lost notice in both those places too if the family posted themselves as well.
Be sure to ask whoever calls to claim their kitty to describe it as best as they can so it doesn't go just to anyone who's looking for a free pet.
If no one claims the kitten after a few weeks and you cannot keep it, consider placing it for adoption on Craigslist's Pet section. Be sure then to ask for a small adoption fee ($15-30) and future home inspections to keep unsavoury people from adopting it as there are too many people looking to use free animals for research, abuse, turn around sell it for profit or worse.

I'm sure that little kitty followed your brother home, yeah, with a little help! But that's sweet. If you can keep it, then try to keep the bigger cat away from the little cat. The only reason the big cat is doing this is because that's 'his home first'. The kitten will grow up fast, and then bigger kitty will learn to leave baby alone. I don't think anybody will claim the kitten. Put it in the local paper. Sometimes it don't cost anything to place an free ad, depending on the paper. I've walked around the flea market/jockey lot to give kittens away, when my cat had kittens. People that wants a kitten, will respond.

You should probably wait a couple of weeks with the signs as a courtesy to the owner- if there is one, but in all likelihood the kitten was abandoned.
After that put up a sign, an ad in the newspaper and check around for a good home.

I would leave the signs up for about 2 weeks and if there is a craigs list in your community (www.craigslist.com) you could post a found kitten in the pets section. After that you could see if any of your friends parents will allow them to have a kitten. If your friends parents won't allow them to have a kitten find a NO KILL cat rescue in your area and they will take the kitten and make sure it finds a good forever home. Good luck with the kitten. :)

Leave the signs up for a week. Find a pet shelter that won't put them to sleep. Call a vet and ask about it. Take pictures of the kitten and try to find it a new home if you don't find the owner. Good luck

That was sweet of you to post the signs. Anyone who lets a kitten out to roam the streets shouldn't have one in the first place.
It would take a while for your "already" cat to accept the kitten and, of course, if your parents say no, that's it. Kittens need shots, neutering and testing for feline diseases and your parents may not want to go to that additional expense.
Everyone wants kittens, believe me,and the shelters may be fulll now because of all the homeless cats and kittens they are flooded with during the spring and summer.
Maybe he will be able to charm your parents into letting him stay. Good luck!

You leave the posters up for as long as it takes , if no one claims him you can call around to shelters or animal sevices to see which would be the best place to put him(cuz from what I hear you guys have a time frame from when they are found to when they put them down , here in canada we have a no kill policy at MOST of our shelters) . Or if your parents would agree to it you couls foster it , which means that you take care of it in your home until the shelter or service find a good home for it. Some places will ask for a small fee to juz take the animal. Good luck!!!

If you cannot keep the cat, look into No Kill shelters in your area. And be absolutely sure that it's a No Kill shelter before you take it there.
If you can convince your parents to keep the kitten, there are ways to introduce him to your other cat. First, the kitten would need to be seen by a vet to make sure it does not have FIV/FELV which can spread to your other cat. Check out HSUS.org to find out how to introduce the cats slowly and safely.

Find a local humane society - we have ones locally that won't put animals to sleep if they don't get adopted in a certain length of time.
Once you locate one, bring them in and have them check for an owner. Some cats are embedded with a microchip that has the cat's owner and contact information. When we adopted ours from the humane society, she came with this chip embedded and our information from the adoption forms was automatically registered in this national database.
If there isn't an owner - they will be the best place to adopt them out. We adopted our cat from a humane society, she was a stray that someone took in, and honestly - neither my husband or I know what we'd do without her :)

Start asking everyone you know if they want a cat or know anyone that might. If you work, post a sign in a lunchroom, etc. If you go to school, post flyers in the main office or the cafeteria. Someone will probably want the cat or know someone that does. Good luck!
