They use a pourable batter, a sweet batter lighter than pancakes. In a pan or vat of hot oil, they pour the batter carefully and slowly into a metal ring hooked to the side of the cooker. The ring doesn't touch the bottom of the cooker. I guess they flip it before they take it off the heat, or just ladle hot oil onto the top as it cooks. When the cake comes out of the oil, they drain it and then sprinkle on sugar, or some other topping of your choice. It goes on a paper plate. You'll need plenty of napkins and someone to share your "wheel of fortune" with.

Well, like the others said it is fried. Basically what it is is, fried dough. If you can get your hand on some good dough, you could possibly make these at home, but use the large can of crisco to deep fry. You might have to sweeten up the dough with sugar, or even roll it in it, and definately powdered sugar at the end. Happy eating !

Make pancake batter. Pour it into a very hot deep fryer. Use a slotted spoon or sieve to turn it when it is brown on the bottom. Remove it from the fryer. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top.

fry them in crisco.... it won't leave a "fried food" smell in your house... also put the batter in a piping bag to replicate the 'nest' that they make, be careful hot oil burns very quickly, have a candy thermometer to watch the temperature of the oil (don't go over 375F) and something to extinguish a fire if one should start. ie: a fire blanket or proper extinguisher
