I seriously think that I have Aspereger's Syndrome. I often have to keep things straight and organized, I like routines, I for some reason have to flip pencils or things like that, I really do have narrow and intense interests (in 1st grade I memorized all the presidents and could tell you anything about them and then I got into more medieval history where by 3rd grade, I could tell you anything about the middle ages, it has changed though, to music, where I constantly research and listen to things like Pink Floyd, which is where I came across this; I was reading about how Syd Barrett could have had Asperger's Syndrome - I do still like history, though), my handwriting is horrible, I mumble a lot, I am clumsy, and it is hard for me to make friends and when I do talk to people, I often get nervous, I walk weird, and I do not like to be touched. Could anyone tell me if it sounds like I have it? Also, if I do have this, where would I get it diagnosed?

A psychiatrist or neurologist could diagnose the condition. But you could be totally normal too, just with weird habits and unusual interests.

If you think you would be better off by finding out for sure, even if the answer is no, then see a psychiatrist or neurologist.

Asperger's syndrome can be found in a range of severities. Many are probably just the tailend of the normal curve of highly intelligent people. Many of the traits you notice sound as though you might be a candidate. But you will want to get a professional diagnosis, and someone to help you develop strategies for improving your life skills so you can be more successful throughout your career and private life.

My son is Aspergers. Do not like to be touched could be a sign of AS. Aspergers people have a weird gait when they walk. My son has social phobia-hard to make friends. You sure sound like it could be AS. Go to, it's either FAAS.org or FAAAS.org. It's a really good site. I don't know how old you are, but it's hard to find doctors who can diagnose Aspergers. There's also a good book by Tony Atwood, the guru of Aspergers but I forget the title. Not all Aspergers people are the same, but they have a lot of the same traits. My son is very mild, but is still AS.

There could be other reasons for your behaviors -- but you also may be right -- the first place you might go is your physician for a referral to someone qualified in diagnosis - unless you don't have a physician. A few on-line resources I just found might have resources to help you find the information you seek.

Take care.
