Yeah, prior to spaying my female she did the same exact thing. Would carry around a rubber squeaky and wouldn't let it go. She ate with it, slept with it, even went outiside with it and went for walks with it.
She also spent a lot of time in her kennel where she would 'nest'
She also did produce milk. She went the whole nine yards with it...
This passes. Don't worry. She will be back to normal in a few days.

False pregnancies? Never heard of it happening to a dog. Do you mean that she's become nurturing to the toy? Sounds really cute. But what does rys ad pants mean?

Yes, my female rott had two of them. She actually gained weight and had milk and was what they call nesting. I really believed she was pregnant until the doctor did a xray and found that she was not pregnant. I not only couldn't believe it but I was sad. I had been trying to almost 3 years for her to get pregnant. Even tried the articficial part twice. After coming to the conclusion she couldn't get pregnant we purchased a male, waited till he was a year and a half and it happened, we had babies. She also gather her toys and kept them in a corner of my room and would dig at the carpet when she was nesting. She wasn't pregnant at the time either. She would also cry and wimper over her toys like they were her babies.

I used to have a dog that had false pregnancies regularly, instead of going into heat. She really didn't feel well during them. This was a long time ago. I would see the vet about it, especially if it happens more than once.

Please don't take her "baby " away ..I had a dog that went through the same thing she had a little rubber toy dog..She thinks those toys are her babies , trust me if you take them away she will grieve thinking they are gone..It will pass ..The dog we had went through it several times a year..the vet said it was normal for some dogs to do that..So just bear with her and please let her keep her babies....
