My friend had huge tonsils, but they recently actually produced white balls out of them and had holes left...?

What the heck is this?

The white balls are pus from infection and they do leave holes. Sounds like your friend had either tonsilitis or strep throat. If they get it frequently, they should see an ear, nose and throat specialist.
