I use to put long socks on my daughter and put a heating pad across on low setting. If they are to severe you need to talk to a doctor and make sure they are growing pains not something more.

Because I was once a child, I know a LOT about growing pains. I had them till I was like 14. I am also a mother of 3 boys. My older boys dont experience them as much as I did when I was their age. But my youngest gets them all the time! The cold triggers them like nothing else. What I do, is what my parents used to do to me. Theres this product called Sloans Linement. It's a topical antiseptic. When massaged on, it has this warming feeling. Almost like Bengay, but not as strong or painful. It doesn't burn at all actually, it just kind of warms the area where it hurts. Your child probaby gets them mostly around the joint areas. Because that's where the bone is still cartilage for him. Not only that, but thats where they grow at. Try to apply this Liniment to that area. It doesn't smell very good, but it's VERY helpful. That with an alternation of tylenol and motrin, will keep the pain away all day! It was recommended by my pediatrician, and it works for my son too. I hope it helps. It's very inexpensive, and over the counter.

My son used to have growing pains for many yrs. I gave him a warm bath, and then I would rub Aspercream on his legs...Aspercream does not have a scent...If you do have allergies to scents and smells....If you don't have allergies to scents and smells, the lavender is a good suggestion, it is a soothing scent to most people...to try and help them sleep and not have some of the pain, but even with the aroma therapy of lavender, or possibly something else, I would say rub something on for pain too, which Aspercream will help with. You can buy it at most grocery stores or pharmacies.

Try some lavender lotion on the leg, rub it in like a massage. If that doesn't work and he/she starts crying some tylenol or advil helps. Sometimes I have to do that with my daughter. A warm bath helps also, but in the middle of the night that isn't always practical.

I used to rub my son's legs at night when he got his attacks. Some say that there is no such thing as growing pains, but why would mostly all children experience such pains? I remember getting "those" pains too as a kid.

Make sure your child has a lot of good neutricious food and give him or her some good vitamins. My experience is that growing pains are more or less normal.
