I filed for bankruptcy 3 years ago and was discharged. Today, I attempted to open a new bank account and was told I had an "unpaid bankruptcy." What is that and how do I fix it?

The only thing I can think of is that I listed the collection agency instead of the bank that issued the credit card (or the reverse) and the one got the message but didn't communicate it to the other.

I filed the bankruptcy without the aid of a lawyer.

Go to annualcreditreport.com and print all 3 of your credit reports I am willing to bet you that there is alot of very wrong information on all 3 of them. Make sure you have a discharge letter giving you the official date and make alot of copies cause u r going to need them.

There is going to be alot of accounts that were on your bankruptcy that do not show that way or double and triples of the same account. Check each listing by account number not by name they will do everything possible to screw you due to your filing chapter 7.

:)

If you have any questions contact me am in the process of fixing my ex-husbands credit for the same thing right now.

I think that the collection agency and/or the credit card issuer charged off the debt due to bankruptcy.

Even though the debt is discharged, I believe in repaying "some" of the debt to demonstrate good faith to future creditors.
