The chances aren't great. However I don't think it is quite as hopeless as some people have made out. Last summers Kirin Cup win was a big boost. While admittedly not a proper trophy it is a great test.
Some new players coming through also show loads of promise. Mainly I'm talking about Kris Boyd and Steven Naysmith.
So don't count Scotland out quite yet.

Around about the same time England win it. Coming from a country which has underachieved given its population, history and supposed love of the game I think you should be more humble. If this question was posed by an Italian or an Argentine or even someone from France, the Netherlands, Uruguay etc etc I would think fair point. If the 66 world cup was held elsewhere you would not have gotten a sniff as the referees would not have dared to be as biased towards England as the home team.

well i am a supreme optomist and although it will be very difficult i would hope in the next 40 years as thats how much time i reckon i have left on this planet and i would love to see it,
The one thing thats makes me confident is the mob of 1966 won it, and after that you must believe anything can happen,
we are a small country compared with most others but we should still be competitive and hard to beat in most games, I think Walter smith will make us hard to beat ,but getting to a world cup final is going to require a lot of very good talent comming through at the same time.
not impossible ,,fingers crossed
cheers

I am surprised that a supporter of Luton Football Club is so interested in the Scottish game. Haven't you got enough problems with your own International team who generally turn up at the World Cup as the comedy act?

No chance, sorry :(
Although Scotland has a few good teams ... mainly Celtic, it is made up of a lot of foreign players and just looking at this past cup you KNOW Scotland can't compete.

not in your lifetime matey. and this is coming from a patriotic but realistic scotsman. we have slid so far down the UEFA rankings that we are always going to be seeded 3rd or 4th for any qualifying tournament making it virtually impossible for us to qualify for the final stages of any compitition.

When Scottish managers decided to start playing Scottish players, instead of bringing in foreign players. Granted i cant see it happening any time soon, give it ten years or more.

Well, one step at a time.
They have got to win against a team of wheelie bins first. They usually give up at half time after being 11-0 down!!!
