yep
why would a Christian lean on any earthly government to uphold God's laws?
The idea of applying God's requirements comes with the knowledge that earthly kingdoms are not here to support God's kingdom.
All of earth's kingdoms stand opposed to God's Kingdom and in fact exist on borrowed time.
Their existence is being allowed by God to prove beyond any doubt that humans have not the ability or any capacity to solv e the problems of humans.

As for your last question, what other commandments are the basis of our laws, without question:
You shall not murder
You shall not steal
Now, you shall not give false testimony is very much like not
committing perjury
The first two are without question. The third is very strong.
Now the other seven mostly apply to what is good and healthy, besides being what is right in God's eyes.
Having no other God is beneficial because we then serve the one true God (opinion and belief, granted)
Not making an idol keeps us from being distracted or mislead
Not misusing the name of the Lord helps us to talk like sensible, reasonable people instead of swearing
Keeping the Sabbath Holy is for our own good; we cannot work seven days a week for very long and be healthy physically, mentally and spiritually
Honoring father and mother keeps the family intact, which sociologists agree is important in a secure, civilized place (and look what's happening to America)
You shall not commit adultery leads, obviously, to better and happier marriages, which again leads to a better and happier society
Not covetting what others has means that we are less inclined to steal. It also lessens jealousy, which leads to a lot of bad actions.
Yes, we worship many things in America, money and materialism are way up there. Do you think that helps us? Are we a better place, morally, for doing this? Do you not think less emphasis on money and things would lead to a better society?
I think many of your questions are intended to stir people to respond hastily and angrily; I am trying to change that. I want people to think and respond intelligently. I have no problem with discussion, as long as it is done respectfully and thoughtfully. Unfortunately, I don't see a whole lot of that here.
Christians: think before you answer any question. Speak what you believe and what the Bible says. Rashness and hate will not serve the purpose and mission of Christ.

Let's give this some thought:
Wouldn't most people be a heck of alot happier if they weren't worshipping money and material things? If we could get over our selfishness, maybe...just maybe...kids wouldn't have to starve to death, or die of diseases we've been able to prevent or cure for ages...
There's more to "taking the name of the Lord in vain" than just watching one's language...if I call myself His (aka "Christian") and behave like the rest of the world, then His Name doesn't mean much, does it?
The corporate world does take Saturday off. That started a long time ago...keeping the sabbath day holy involves not working or paying for work...
No, nobody "honors" their parents any more. And that's too bad...
Yes, there is a law against murder.
Adultery has never been a really great idea...
Yes, we have a law against stealing.
You mentioned gossip. I wonder how much trouble that has caused?
And we come finally to covet. And isn't that where it all begins? Wouldn't we be so much happier if we could just quit being jealous of the Joneses????
I think that covers all ten.
God bless you...

Rom 2:12 Those people who don't know about God's Law will still be punished for what they do wrong. And the Law will be used to judge everyone who knows what it says.
Rom 2:13 God accepts those who obey his Law, but not those who simply hear it.
Rom 2:14 Some people naturally obey the Law's commands, even though they don't have the Law.
Rom 2:15 This proves that the conscience is like a law written in the human heart. And it will show whether we are forgiven or condemned,
Rom 2:16 when God appoints Jesus Christ to judge everyone's secret thoughts, just as my message says.

Each and every one of the 10 Commandments is appropriate for today. The fact that they are not followed probably is part of the reason the country/world is in the shape it's in. And, yes, corporate America does make keeping the Sabbath difficult. (I work in a hospital - working every other weekend.
Not bearing false witness/lying - definitely appropriate
Not taking the Lord's name in vain - 30 years ago people didn't swear like they do today.
Honor your mother & father - appropriate.
Do not kill - f no need to explain the benefit of that one.
Not covetiing - try fidelity - keeping the family together, not being jealous.
Each of them, all 10, if followed would improve this country.
Sadly, they aren't followed, and look at where we are.

not saying I've kept them all but it's kind of like telling a child not to touch something that is hot.....but they have to try it anyway....God the Father tries to show us a way that will help us lead a better life...but we still have to see for ourselves.......as far as Sunday being the sabbath....in the new testament Jesus said The sabbath was made for man..not man for the sabbath....it was the only one The Lord changed

Jesus came to fulfill the law. He has done so and and so the laws of Moses are boiled down to two: 1) Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength and 2) Love you neighbor as you love yourself.

Many people use the Ten Commandments (as well as excerpts of the Bible) to fit their own agendas while not taking into account what they actually mean.

Well, it makes sense; stealing, murdering, all are proscribed in the commandments, and, especially these days, I don't think some people would care about those things being illegal if they didn't have some other "force" behind them.
