Have you not read your history books?
All faiths have had child sacrifices, witch hunts, and tortured heretics.
But as recorded in the bible, God said that he never asked for such things to take place as proof of their worship to him.
Remember the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one, Satan the Devil, who would stop at nothing to bring reproach on the Only True God, Palms 83:18.
We can not change what others do, or have done in the name of religion.
We can only learn from their mistakes and choose not to make those mistakes ourselves.

All while they were also creating Western civilization as we know it. You forget the SO many things they were right about.
So I'm not ashamed because (1) anti-religious bigots really blow things like the Inquisition out of proportion and usually have a poor historical understanding of what really happened. I often wonder how many people who reject Christianity because of the Spanish Inquisition could even find Spain on a map.
(2) Although some Christians have done some awful things in the name of religion, I see no reason why I personally should feel ashamed. I'm not going to feel guilty over something that someone else did hundreds of years before my birth. How is that my fault? How is it anyone alive today's fault?
(3) Finally it is not a tenet of Christianity that all Christians will behave perfectly and never do anything hypocritical. In fact Jesus himself implies that most people will choose the path towards sin and evil. The bad behavior of some Christians does not mean Christianity is false. The fact that some Christians in Spain 500 years ago burned people at the stake doesn't mean that Jesus didn't rise from the dead, that Heaven and Hell don't exist, that various sins are OK, etc.

All that i ought to desire for is that he does the ideal that he can and love with each thing he's were given. i changed into proud to be his Mama the day he changed into born and that i'll stay so until eventually my very last breath.

Hello, those were not Christians. They claimed to be but they completely went against what Christ teaches, so therefore I don't call them Christians. Dont judge everyone of us based on a few fanatics. That would be the same as judging every Islamic person based on what the terrorists do. There is an extreme in every religion, but that doesn't mean that is what the religion is based on.

The same reason not all of the millions of white americans arent wracked with guilt about slavery, the same reson that all muslims arent wracked with guilt about persicuting christians, the same reason not all Germans are wracked with guilt about a nazi past. The mistakes of your grandparents and great grand parents arent yours to feel eternal guilt for. I'm not justifying these things. They are all horrible, but humanity learned great lessons from each. We learn from our mistakes, however terrible. Everyone is wrong for so many things. If we never got over it, the world would never get to be a better place.

I am proud to be a Christian, but I must agree in part with you on the witch hunts. There was mass confusion at that time, and it was back then, like it is now. There were only a small group that did it, sort of like a cult today. I do agree in part however. And I really don't know if they were Christians as we know them today.

Because they weren't Christians doing these things. Just like there are those who claim to be (insert whatever religion here) but don't adhere to the teachings of it and give it a bad name.
Don't be so naive to think that Christ didn't warn us that MANY would come in his name and do all sorts of things. Look around and tell me that it isn't happening today, in other ways.
Don't judge Christianity by what so-called Christians do or have done. Yahshua told us this, or have you not read the book?

The same reason any group/sect of people are not ashamed for the doings of their ancestors. I am disturbed of the antics of ancient Christians and contemporary extremists, but it is not my fault. True Christianity has nothing to do with killing/burning/torturing anyway, so I hardly even feel connected to them.

Listen not everyone who claims to be christian is a christian and there are and were many churches in the past that took scripture out of context, most had little understanding of the greek and hebrew and could not discern. What ever, I never burnt anyone God hasn't told me to burn or harm anyone. I love the best I can

because those christians and hopefully those ways are dead, when will people realize that just because christians did some bad **** in the name of god in the past does not mean that christians of the here and now will do the same **** their ancestors did. the sins of others are theirs to live with and nobody elses. just cause one group of christians burned people at the stake does not mean that others will.
