I've seen this a million times now. Ex husband get mad at new boyfriend and claims the new guys is childmolester.Ex wife gets mad at guys new girlfriend and claims they are beating or abusing the children...........I think It takes time and energy away from the real cases of abuse. should these people get In trouble for this or is the witch hunt method of falsely accusing just go on.

Yes, they should, not only does it detract from other cases but when a family is investigated for child abuse, it puts a mark on their record whether or not the accusations were founded - it can often cause future problems such as restricting the person from becoming a foster parent, working in a day care etc. Anything that causes Child protection to investigate can cause these problems.

Depending on the state, you can get in trouble for false reports.Not to mention that saying someone is a childmolester ect. that is not is against slander laws and can get you jailed, fined, or sued, there again depending on state laws. The difficult part of the whole thing is getting the agencies that take the reports to help the accused press charges of false reports. Here in florida that has gotten a bit easiers, however,due to the fact that any report filed must now be followed up by the sheriffs office as well, which adds filing a false police report as a possible charge and make the information of the person who called it in available to the accused. needless to say the number of false reports here has dropped dramticly to allow more time for the kids who really do need help. I think if every state issued that law then less reports would be filed under false pretenses and then we would have the time for our agencies to get the one who really are guilty off the streets and the kids safe.

They should. However it would cause other problems. Basically you wouldn't want to punish people who in good faith thought a child was being abused and reported it, and it turned out the child wasn't being abused. Sometimes people make mistakes. I would worry that in the end, fewer people would report child abuse for fear that they themselves would go to jail if they were wrong.
If it could be proven that a person completely fabricated an allegation of abuse just to get revenge or simply for attention, then yes that person should be severely punished. But proving it is the tough part . . .

Absolutely! There's a difference between thinking there may be a problem and reporting what you know in order to help a child and just being an angry, malicious, hurtful person. I think when it's obvious that it was just a hate crime (that's what it seems like to me), the malicious person should be prosecuted. It not only hurts the intended victim, but can hurt the children as well when they have to be involved in all the questioning and possibly even removal from their home.

Yes they should be a penalty for reporting false reports of child abuse.It does take time for our cops away from what is important which is illegal drugs and drug smuggles.And it is sick and wrong to lie about child abuse,when there is children out there that is really being abused.

Yes I think they should be punished for wasting time and money on foolishness. I think they should be billed for the man hours every agency involved used to look into the false claims.

They should be punished. Isn't it abuse putting a child through home visits, therepy and questioning that wasn't even needed. Scaring the kid into thinking someone's gonna hurt them. Some don't realize their actions hurt.

I don't know. What if they seriously thought someone was a child molester, but was afraid of reporting it because of the consequences for being wrong
