Would this be illegal, or would you be stopped by police if;

You have a very fast car i.e ferrari, porsche etc and from a standing start at traffic lights absolutely floored it.......till 30mph.
This is providing you werent mistaken for trying to drag race with someone, and the road in front of you was free from traffic/pedestrians.

If yes, what charge will they be able to class it as? Dont say dangerous/reckless driving because it just isn't. You could argue that its a new car and you havent quite got the feel of the accelerator.

it would be an offence to overtake the first car in the queue if you were on the left

you could possibly be charged with careless and inconsiderate driving under section 3 of the road traffic act 1988 if you were causing distress to other users of the road

also you rule out causing danger to other road users, but just cos you think its safe doesn't mean the court couldn't show there was a 'risk of injury'

i see what your trying to do, but its not worth it

also in england a police officer in uniform has the power to stop a vehicle just because its on a road without any reason, i'd suggest your behaviour might spark the wrong kind of interest

You couldn't be done for speeding... but yes, you could be done for dangerous driving, due care and attention, or inconsiderate driving under section 3 of the road traffic act 1988. Yes, really, you could. It wouldn't just happen if you squeeled your tyres as you accellerated, because if you're increasing your speed that quickly, there's no way you'd have proper control of your vehicle. If you did squeel your tyres and the like whilst doing so, you could also have your vehicle taken from you till you'd paid to have it released, under section 59 of the Police reform act.

If your tires squeal or you break traction it is "failure to control" or "reckless operation" and trust me you WILL be cited. BTDT lol

P.S. I dont HAVE to argue it is wreckless operation....the cop will. You can't play games with the police...they will win. First thing in addition to your wreckless operation citation, they will have you engage your parking brake, start your engine, put it in 1st gear, and take your foot off the clutch. If your car moves you have faulty brakes.....shall I continue? They usually have a ready supply of citation pads. If you want to argue about it, they will tow your car and have it impounded. You'll end up paying several hundred dollars plus towing and storage fees plus the cost to repair your brakes (because once the brakes are cited and your car is towed you will not be allowed to drive it from the impound lot..it must be towed to a garage or your home etc). All this just because you wanted to see what you could get away with.

I cannot see that there would be any offences - unless the brief moment of accelaration caused the car to skid or swerve - not likely - and then perhaps dangerous/reckless if it interfered with any other road users.

You may well get pulled over and spoken to about the manner of your driving and asked to produce your documents etc.

Are you sure you are good enough to get of the accelerator before hitting 31. If not, you are speeding and your careless driving just earned you 2 tickets. On a public highway, you cannot guarantee that such a move is 100% safe, therefore, they can get you for careless driving.

In TX: Excessive Acceleration, I would stop you, check your driver's license status, warrants check, and insurance, then I would check for you current Motor Vehicle Inspection Sticker.....Hey, you asked for the attention, one thing you don't consider about police officers....people are never happy, you spin your tires out but not exceed the speed limit, what about the old man sitting at the cofee shop patio who sees you spin your tires in front of me with my unit behind you and I don't stop you....we are there so people can feel safe, the bad news is, I would stop you and check you, the good news is that if your paperwork was straight, I would let you off with a written warning.......Don't spin your tires and ask for extra attention....

Most of them are right. If you are in a fast/street racing car, you would not be flooring it for very long to get to 30. (unfortunately) In fact, i wouldn't even call it "flooring." However, if you were in a slower car, and floored it, you WOULD be pulled over for "Excessive Acceleration." The only legal reason is to avoid collision.

they would dream up something to charge you with ,i got stopped by a weird cop once for " not waiting at a junction long enough" even though there was nothing else other than the police car in sight he then added "you caused no inconvinience to any other driver including myself " then he got back in his cop car and drove off , i think some of them just like the power trip the uniform gives them ,freaks.

If you are in the UK you might get stopped for driving without due care and attention or at lease given a warning by the police. It is not something I would attempt myself.

Ahh, but in my high school days...ahem...in the 80's, I was the recipient of 6 tickets one summer that resulted in driving school. And, believe it or not, one was for reckless driving for doing almost exactly what you described in my 71 SS Camaro.
