I think you hit the mark, they were indeed the first jews, but not the first people. The Old Testament is the history of the Jewish people, not the history of the world.

According to Judaism, they weren't.
If we're the "chosen people", then god had to choose us from all the nations that were exist long before our religion, therefor the first man and woman cannot be Jewish, nor Hebrews.

And another interesting thought: Adam and Eve had two babies by themselves, that is obvious, but how did Abel and Cain brought THEIR children? Eve was the only broad around... A bit disgusting, isn't it?

They were the first Jews. As soon as God told them that Jesus would come to die for the world, and they believed it, they became Jews. But before they sinned there were no religions, only a relationship with God. Then some years later the descendants of Adam and Eve tried to build this huge tower - The Tower of Babel - to make a name for themselves. God didn't like their boastful ways, so he made them all speak different languages so they couldn't understand the building procedure. Since they couldn't understand each other, they dispersed throughout the world. The conditions and climate of the various regions that they went to changed their skin color, hair, etc. And that's how various skin colors came about. Like black people are dark(er) because of the continuous sun "tanning." Well that's what I believe anyway.

It's a possibility. Genesis is in the Old Testament which has Hebrew influence. In order to really know the answer, first it must be established where exactly the Garden of Eden was.

With *no* religous back up at *all* just my idea... is that one of them was black... *VERY* black... and one was white... EXTREME white... and between that came all the other shades... Remember... that is MY theory only and no way to prove it.

According to the original meaning (from the "Other side" of the Euphrates), I'd say yes, since the Garden was somewhere east of the Euphrates. According to the other definitions, no.
