Yep! I take 100mg. per day and it helps with my anxiety and my mood-swings(and temper too!!) just give it a few weeks...it will work and try to take it the same time every morning-I take mine around 7:00 am after my breakfast-I've had no side effects...well at first I had loose poo-poo's and dry mouth , for about 2 weeks but then it goes away and then the "meds" kick in before you know it. Every once in a while my lil temper kicks in but not half as bad as it used to get! Good luck! and give it time, it will work!! They might start you at a lower dose the first week then gradually go up!

It sounds to me like the reason for the mood swings is more likely due to the aftermath of the abortion and finding your birth family. Zoloft will only deal with the symptoms but it cannot do anything about the root cause. That is what needs to be dealt with.

By the way, although Zoloft might help you with these feelings, it can also cause mania (which means a feeling like you are kind of high, where you speak rapidly and your mind won't "shut off" so you only sleep a couple of hours a night). The FDA forced them to put a warning on their label for people under 18, but it can also happen to people over 18 as well. (I can't understand why the FDA didn't make them say it would affect adults as well! Oh, well, big business in selling drugs, I guess.)

To me, it makes more sense to deal with the root of the problem rather than merely medicating the symptoms. Giving a medication to someone who is dealing with the things you mentioned is like a person with a rubber band wrapped tightly around their finger going to the doctor for something to take care of the pain. Sure, the doctor can give a medication that will take away the pain, but it doesn't deal with the CAUSE of the pain. The cause for you is most likely what you mentioned above.

Also, you might want to read about SSRIs and their possible effects before you start taking it. Doctors do not really know how these drugs work and some people have had serious problems from them (and have won lawsuits for them). Here is an excerpt from a book called, "The Anti-Depressant Fact Book" by Dr. Peter Breggin. I think anyone should read it before they take any SSRIs. http://www.oaim.org/antidepressants.html Although the article is from a Christian perspective, Dr. Breggin is not at all a Christian (as far as I know) and he is a medical doctor with a lot of experience in this area.

I've counseled over a thousand people who have been depressed and I've not met one yet that was depressed for no reason at all. Once we dealt with the reasons, then the depression disappeared.

well i take Zoloft but i take it for depression, my doctor prescribes respidal for my mood disorder, i get the same way you get, and I'm not sure if Zoloft work for anxiety, but i don't think so.I've heard xanax is good for anxiety.so look into it on line or get a second opinion.

Yes, It can help. I lost my husband and felt that the world was over for me. All I did was sleep.........My doctor gave me Zoloft
and I have a life now. I also prayed and asked God to give me hope and Peace. So I will ask God to hold you close as he heals your emotional state.
