The first symptoms of a heartworm infestation are a cough that doesn't go away, the dog may faint when exerted or act listless and have no energy. What usually ends up happening is the dog grows weaker and weaker, until it ends up dying from congestive heart failure.
In a young dog heartworms shouldn't have been in the dog's system long enough to cause any permanent damage.
I hope this helps.

It takes 6 months for the heartworm to mature. I doubt your puppy has heartworm. If he is on meds for it then he doesn't. Your vet should have done a blood test before giving it the prevention as the treatment is different if they are positive for heartworm. The symptoms are fatigue, difficulty breathing, easily winded, etc.. call ur vet and make sure your pup was tested prior to being treated.

sure, heartworm can watch for 2 weeks, plenty longer than that extremely. Heartworms has a lengthy incubation era. i have had a canines with heartworms before, and that i got here across out in ought to; the vet stated waiting till November to commence clinical care because that's more effective constructive to attend to in the time of chilly climate. It takes many years for heartworms to kill a canines. that doesn't recommend now to not attend to it of direction, basically that it is not an emergency. yet you're certainly leaping the gun by technique of assuming that the domestic dog has it. i imagine that's probable some distance too early for a canines to expose indications of heartworms; it takes a lengthy time period for indications to happen, and this is a domestic dog, so... do the maths. Kennel cough seems more effective likely besides; and that i comprehend not something about kennel cough.

Caval Syndrome or Vena Cava Syndrome. This is seen when there are large numbers of adult worms (usually around 100 or more) in the heart. There is almost complete blockage of all blood flow. Many times there will be no signs of heart disease prior to the animal’s collapse. When fainting and collapse does occurred it is accompanied by severe shock, red blood cell destruction, and often death within 1-2 days.

really really sick but they have to have it for a real long time before it becomes noticeable. If you suspect they have it go to a low cost clinic to get it tested it could save its life. How old is it ? If it is under 4 months I doubt they have it. if they are sick its probably parvo or distemper which they get from contact with a sick dog or an infested yard or grass etc. The pup needs to be seen by a vet. If it doesnt have all of its shots it will surely die if it is sick and left untreated. If it isnt sick get all 3 sets of shots.

Puppies usually get heartworms from their mother. I would get shots for your puppy. It's only going to help you out in the long run. Besides, the shot will get rid of them if the puppy has them.

heartworms are located in the heart and have NOTHING to do with trouble defecating. He could be constipated or have a blockage. If he continues to have trouble I would take him to your vet
