I own a 2001 Honda civic and I want to know if it is possable to tow a jet ski and trailer weighing approximately 1000 pounds.I will be towing the jet ski and trailer 6 miles round trip. The owner's manual states the car is not designed for towing, but I have seen aftermarket trailer hitches advertised claiming to be able to tow up to 2000 pounds.

i have a chevy prizm (about the same size and motor). I have towed a lincoln towncar for short distances (my wife's car had a lot of problems).

anyway, i wouldn't think a jetski and trailer would be any problem, even on long distance. just watch the temp and RPM. have a great time at the lake!

Any vehicle can tow, despite what manuals may say. However, I recommend sticking to what your manual says and don't tow. You can easily rent a slightly larger car for that time, simply request that it have a towing hitch and if they ask for how much weight, give over the weight that you'll be towing (in the case of the 1000 lb jet ski and trailer, say 2000 lb). If you're really bent on towing with your Civic, get the hitch professionally installed and, when towing, be sure to keep an eye on your engine's temperature, as well as your RPM.

If your car can be driven with 4 large people in it(300 pounds each is 1200 pounds)
It will not drive any different with 2 average size people and a trailer.

The capacity of a vehicle to tow has more to do with the ability to stop.
Allow extra stoping distance.
When launching or retrieving the jet ski don't let the tail pipe go under water.

PS: Watch how much extra weight is in the car-remove things that are not needed and pack light.

I don't care what the owner manuel says. It is a bad idea. I would find another way if you like your transmission. I love civics and think they are great cars but I would not even chance it. Borrow a truck. Just because a hitch wont break with weight under under 2000 lbs doesn't mean that the car itself can handle it. If the owner manuel said that it is not designed to tow and something goes wrong, you also will void any warrenty you have on the car.

I would say go for it. I have towed a 15 foot boat and trailer many times with a ford tempo. However be very careful it will take a lot longer to slow down and if you lock the back wheels trying to stop the trailer will push your back end around in front of you commonly known as a jack knife. so take it slow leave plenty of following distance.good luck

as long as the tongue weight is not to much ur car, it should pull it just fine
