If swelling and pain are the reason you need the root canal, you will feel better after it is done. That will relieve the pressure and the pain.
If that is not the situatilon, don't worry about it.
You will need a second treatment to seal the opening with a permanent filling.

I've only had one, but it didn't hurt, in fact it removed all pain. There is some discomfort from the drilling and having your mouth open for a long time, but it is sooo much better than the pain of the tooth beforehand.
You will have to go back in for a crown, but it has to settle for a week or so before they can do that. Sometimes the dentist can complete the root canal in one session that lasts a couple of hours. I would have been able to have pictures taken the next day,... but it depends on what happens.
Good Luck

I would say as long as you're not getting anything pulled, you're face shouldn't be swollen, so getting expensive pictures done the next day shouldn't be an issue. I had to go in twice for mine, but that was because it really infected and it hurt too much for them to keep going. They gave me antibiotics and I went back in the next week, and everything went fine. Just don't be shy about asking for more novacaine or nitrous oxide!

it use to be a real painful process but anymore it is not done that way anymore, they use a small wire looking piece and clean out the roots of the tooth with them, but there is some swelling and some tenderness, very little pain.

it is not as painful as needing one. it can take more than a couple of visits. actually mine did not hurt at all. you will need a temporary crown before they can fit you with a permanent one. I would say go for it. arent you in a lot of pain?

i am not completly sure on this, but i definatly would not get it the day before senior pictures, im sure if you are not unconcious during the procedure, you are throughly drugged
drugged usually means side effects and puffy cheeks = bad for pictures
call your dentist and ask him about this
try to reschedule after the pictures
