These days there are many family's that have teens and younger children in the house. If your child is acting like he is smoking then the child he has picked this up from is probably a child that either has teen brothers and sisters that have been showing the child things like smoking or they are smoking in front of the child. or the child's parents smoke.
you will find that kids will pick things up from other kids in the school IE: swearing nose picking all kinds of things. I would not be to concerned about this but maybe try and find out what child has shown your child this. Talking to the teacher would only courses troubles.kids pick these things up we may not like it but I have always said we lose our baby's when they start school and when they start high school things are worse. you have to teach your child that this is not a good thing to do and you would rather he did not do this. But he is in the real world now and will be bringing home lots of things that you don't like.

I don't see why you don't believe your son that one of the kids in his class showed him. That kid probably saw someone smoking and thought it looked cool. It's not cool, obviously, and you need to explain that to your son. Next time he acts like he's smoking, tell him that smoking is very dangerous and it can even kill people and that it doesn't look cool to act like you're smoking. Tell him it's a very bad thing to do and forbid him from doing it anymore. Then yell at him or punish him if he does it again. He ought to stop soon. But until he does, don't worry about it. By the time he's of the age when he would actually start smoking for real, he won't even remember what he did in preschool- and he hopefully won't smoke, if you keep reinforcing the message that smoking is bad.

The other child probably has a parent that smokes and they learned it from them. It is never too early to start talking to your kids about the dangers of smoking. For this age just tell him that smoking makes people sick. Try not to overload with too much info until he is a little older.

Remember candy cigarettes? I think most of the kids in my class at some time or another had them. I would explain to him, in very simple terms, that smoking isn't a good think. It makes you sick. Does he like to run? When people smoke, they can't run. I wouldn't really dwell on it since he probably won't remember any of it in a week. Good luck and I hope this helps!

I would metion it to his teach just so she will know what is going on, but my daughter started doing the same thing because alot of my family members smoke. I get on to her and she knows she's not supposed to do that but nothing works. I'm hopeing it passes.

Have a talk with him about how smoking is bad. I remember back in kindergarten when kids pretended to do that... I think it's a phase - they want to be older. Just explain to him what smoking really is, and what it can do to you.

To me, he is at the most impressionable age. I can't tell you the (rather dumb, nasty, stupid) things I did when I was that age, not because I saw people doing them at home, but because I saw them on television.
Remember at this age, they want to BE everything. . .a cowboy, an astronaut, etc. He's just playing. It's fine.

If you're scared he's going to start smoking then I have one easy option for you, Let him try it, he will hate it and never do it again.

It'll pass i remember doing that as a kid too!
BUT, be sure to tell him, that no one in your family smokes, and that it's dangerous to your health! "He'll kick the habit." (No pun intended!)
