Our history as "The United States" has been recorded from the begining in English. The voice of Abraham Lincoln,Martin Luther King,George Washington, and Benjamin Franklin was spoke and writen in the same language, and that was English.

Imagine a America where English was not the spoken word, now
imagine some one looking upon the Constitution only to see a foreign language , or listening to MLK " I had a Dream ", and not knowing what was being said.

I don't care what language anyone speaks. But our gov't shouldn't have to print forms in other languages because of those refusing to learn our language. I mean, if I were to go to another country, they aren't going to cater to me because the only language I know is english.

The Senate is offering legislation to make English the language of the US,and to make burning the American flag a felony. They have a great bunch of bills being offered as does the House ,so perhaps it will clarify that problem. They were all listed in my morning newspaper. For once they may be doing something right.

It just evolved that way. It's a result of our history. No one just decided one day to declare English the language and then make everyone learn English. No, the vast majority of the people hear have always spoken English as their first language. There is nothing ignorant about it. If you want to learn a 2nd or 3rd language, that's great too.

Even without Congress, English has always been the language of this nation. I dont agree with bilingual education and bilingual forms that governments have to print, using my tax money.

If you want to live here, learn the language. If I moved to Japan to live, I would learn the language of that country.

Hey, we have many ways for people to learn english, so get off your backsides and learn it.

This country has very reasonable rules, you can speak any language you want, but you have to learn english,it has been the same for many years, and has worked fine, this country even provides the means for people to learn the language, something other countries won't provide,if all this country asks is for immgrants to learn the language, why is it unreasonable?

I don't believe it is ignorant to keep America an English speaking nation, Australia, England and many other countries speak English. And they have been around longer than America has.... So no I don't think its ignorant for America to keep speaking English. You wouldn't expect Germans to begin speaking Russian would you?

We better stay with one language. The language questioner talks about is long gone. The only second language that would interest this person would half to be universal.

If the English language was good enough for the Lord Jesus Christ, it's good enough for the people of the United States.

English is the language of business....worldwide, I live in El Paso, TX (border city) and even in Mexico, little by little, doctor's offices have english speaking clerks, not to mention pharmacy techs, and believe it or not, there are establishments along the mexican border that only accept US Dollars as currency, (mostly vehicle maintenance, autobody, dentists, similar businesses)
