ok whey do they call hamburgers hamburgers when Ham is from a pig and Hamburgers from a cow.?

It's my understanding that the concept of smashed ground beef is from the olden days of nomadic riders in Europe, who would place beef between their saddles and their horse. It would season from the saddle leather and the horse's back, and they would eat it. It's also and idea that the area this was common practice is near present day Hamburg.

There are several cities that claim to be the origin of the hamburger. From what I could find, the word "hamburger" doesn't get its name from the German city of a similar name, but from Hamburg, N.Y.!

There are other stories that say otherwise. But,you can check it out yourself! ;)

They're called hamburgers because the very first one was made in Hamburg, Germany.

I think it had to do with a place, Hamburge, Germany.

When we vacationed in Cuba last year they actually served real "ham"burgers and they were delicious - they were made out of ground ham!
