Um, you might want to start with a rudimentary understanding of the difference between "need" and "needed." That would be one tip.

Food Critics generally need to be witty and coy when they write, and be able to describe food like it's a living, breathing entity. I would say a Bachelor's Degree in English or Journalism, and some writing experience. Typically the job is based on your work, so if you write well, then you won't have any problems.
