My pastor explained this to my group a while ago,
Many use the excuse, just because jesus turned water into wine so its ok to drink wine......but the wine back then is not the wine we have now. The wine back then i believe was pure where as now as my pastor refers is the happy wine... to make you drunk and forget about everything. The purpose wine was used back then is not the purpose wine is used for now. So as christians is not okay to drink wine. Im not to sure but if it wine is like alcohol it can be addicting leading anyone including christians to be alchoholics. So therefore christinas shouldnt drink wine. I hope i explained myslef well.

Grape juice as we know it wasn't invented until the late 1800's, so yes, it was real wine.

Drinking in moderation is fine in my opinion. Actually, my previous pastor, who is actually the chaplain that preached at Dale Earnhardt's funeral, claims that there is not a single place in the bible that says you shouldn't drink whatsoever, but there are places that say that you should drink a little. Actually, a little is good for you. It thins the blood and can prevent heart disease and is full of antioxidants.

1 Timothy 5:23 - Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.

As for it not being real wine and not the "happy juice", consider the fact that Noah got extremely drunk off of wine, and that was well before Jesus's day, so yes, it was alcoholic. Read Genesis chapter 9 if you don't believe me.

While you're in Genesis, read chapter 19 where it talks about where Lot got so drunk that he had incest with his two daughters.

Just those two stories alone should show that the guy who said that it wasn't real wine back then and that it has turned into the "happy juice" of today that is for getting drunk... is totally full of crap. However, there are many more references like this that is more than enough evidence for an even halfway intelligent person to see that wine is wine, and that wine has alcohol in it, whether it is the wine of today, or wine in Noah's day.

christians are able to drink wine. it is the important fact that we don't get drunk as then it becomes a sin when we overdo it. jesus turned water into wine at the wedding for the people remember. and red wine is used in communion at churches as well.

If your a Christian and the bible speaks as part of a normal part of Christian life then your allowed.

It's not really a question of right and wrong. More a question of preference, like should you wear the wear the blue coat or the grey coat.

Pay more attention to your bible. Jesus loved a good party where wine was the beverage of choice.

The Bible says "A drunken Man will not enter the gates of Heaven" Since everyone interprets the Bible differently...my personal opinion is you can drink, just don't get drunk.

Jesus made wine. The bible doesn't say he drank it, however, it does advise moderation in all things.

The bible is once again at odds with itself on this one.
Essentially I believe that it's OK to drink wine (it is by no means compulsory) providing you are cool when drinking/drunk.
