I usually tip 10% as a minimum, and 20-40% for good service. If the waiter is deliberately rude, then I don't tip at all. I believe the standard tip is 20%, though (even if the waiter doesn't have to do anything). After all, most of their income is based on tips.

I'll usually leave a minimum 10% tip, maybe slightly less, depending on how horrible the service is. I feel bad leaving much less than that, though, even at a buffet, where all the waitor/waitress does is bring a drink and the bill. Most of these folks only make like 2 bucks an hour, so they really depend on their tips to make any sort of a living....

Depends, if the waiter/waitress isn't friendly or presentable, tip less than 10%. If the waiter/waitress screws up your order or has a mental error, tip 10%. If good, 15%

Depends....

If you are talking about a buffet type dining facility where the only thing they do is bring you a drink (if that,) and pre-bus and bus your table then I would still tip at least 10%. Keep in mind that even in buffet type dining facilities the servers are still only making 2 something an hour and count on their tips.

However...

If you are talking about a waiter that just provides you with poor service... you tip according to the service they provided you...

leave about 10%
because servers have to split thier tips with sushi chefs, bussers, bar tenders, food expo, credit card fees, etc.
if you tip them less than 5% they end up owing the restaurant money out of their own pocket.
at least leave them a dollar on $20 so they can break even. but that's real cold. was the server really rude or nonexistent? that's grounds for a bad tip. otherwise, if you did not like the service, at least leave them 10% for their time and unsatisfactory effort. 10% is still a horrible tip. anyone who leaves a penny or a nickel is just a cheap & rude.

If the service was good, I tip 15%. If the service is great, I tip 20%. If the waiter was unattentive, but everything else was fine, I tip 10%. If the whole experience sucked (food, service, bussing, cleanliness, etc...), I tip nothing.

I still leave 10% if the service is inadequate, 15% to 20% for great service! I personally will leave more for a breakfast served ...I always feel badly that they work as hard or harder for the morning meal, refreshing coffee, ect. I think waiting tables must be a very frustrating, and difficult job....you could not pay me enough to put up with the mixes of personalities that the staff has to endure!!

If the service was bad then I leave a nickle so they will know that I didn't forget about the tip. For good service depends on how well the service was and the amount of the meal
