Eventually it will cost you all your money, savings, and any loans you can get.
Here is the price list. The cost to complete the Bridge to Total Freedom (aka Pier to Total Flotsam) is about $380,000 but can be more.

It will also cost you your friends and family if they aren't scientologists. Scientologists disconnect from outside influence over time, including non-scio family - esp. if they are critical of your involvement. But also just because they spend all their time at with Scientology that they have no time left for family and friends.
Your time will become increasingly devoted to the cult until you are working long hours for pittance for them ($10-50 a week if your lucky).
Your critical thinking skills will be eroded away after time, so you are ready to accept OT III, Xenu and the Alien Souls called Body Thetans.

Scientology is a destructive cult, do not be fooled by them...

"[The court record is] replete with evidence [that Scientology] is nothing in reality but a vast enterprise to extract the maximum amount of money from its adepts by pseudo scientific theories... and to exercise a kind of blackmail against persons who do not wish to continue with their sect.... The organization clearly is schizophrenic and paranoid, and this bizarre combination seems to be a reflection of its founder, L.Ron Hubbard."
Judge Breckenridge, Los Angeles Superior Court:

Please do extensive research on these sites, and the web in general to get the full story on scientology. The Church of Scientology will not tell you the truth on just about anything. None of their methods have been demonstrated to work, none of it was properly researched or tested, and quite frankly Hubbard was an outright liar & a conman.

Not a lot. There are books you can read and these cost no more than the books you'd buy at Barnes and Noble. A course can cost about $50 or so, and auditing (Scientology counseling) is not expensive especially if you train to be an auditor yourself.
There are a couple of Scientology orgs in your area. Here are their locations and contact info:
Church of Scientology Mission of Upland
200 N. 2nd Ave.
Upland, CA 91786

Church of Scientology of Orange County

Their press is far worse than that of the Masons. The church has membership dues which are about 3000.00 for lifetime, or 450.00 a year, unless it went up again. To just do some introductory courses- that actually does not cost much. So to get into it, doesn't cost much. But to go far in it- then it can run to big bucks. As in HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars The reason the church gets a lot of bad press is their treatment of members and harassment of critics. Note to Fabio: the Church of Scientology does have membership dues. They are called IAS dues. Any reg will tell you that your IAS dues are supposed to be paid up, in addition to the course and auditing fees. How could you not know that?

It doesnt cost anything to join. They just charge a flat amount for their courses, even at the highest levels. The first couple of courses are pretty cheap (most people take just those).
Its cheaper than many religions. In the more mainstream ones (like christian religions) you give up 10% of your earnings to join (tithing) and everything you have to get to the higher levels in the church.
