According to a statistic released today, one in 8 Americans lives in poverty. Take any behavioral trait negatively associated with race- crime rate, delinquency, teen pregnancy, high school dropout rate, alcoholism, depression, learned helpnessness, not reading or speaking English well- and change "Hispanics" or "Blacks" with "poverty". The only thing that changes is that your chance of making a correct statement triples. Very very few of those of us born into or raised in poverty ever make it out. I say "us" becasue I am a minority statistic myself. Had I made a few choices differently I would have been one of the above statistics. Having started 14 years ago on my own with nothing (I am 31) I still live in the shadow of creditors one paycheck away from bankruptcy. Believe me when I say I still get judged that way too even as a successful careerwoman. The roots of poverty cannot be ignored, and to say America has no class system is dead wrong. Focus on the issues surrounding poverty and the crime rate will drop.

This is an excellent example of a "correlation and causation" fallacy.
You are correct: there is a correlation between being black and being a criminal.
But there is not a *causitive* relationship between being black and being a criminal. Being black, by itself, doesn't actually make you more likely to lead a life of crime.
So, why is there a correlation?
Because black people are also disproportionately affected by poverty.
And that's where the causation lies - being poor actually does make you much more inclined to lead a life of crime. Since black people are disproportionately poor, they're also disproportionately criminals.
You can tell that this relationship holds by looking at other races that are poor; the same relationship between poverty and criminality holds with white people and with every other race.
Oh, and which group is most criminally inclined?
The answer is: the question is irrelevent. Race is not a determining factor in the likelihood of being a criminal.

the issue is not a matter of race, but of demographics. those born into poverty and who live day by day as a young adult are more likely to seek crime as their mode of income.
then there is the influence of music and the media that preaches to us that having whores, drugs, alcohol and bustin' caps in somebodies @ss is the way to prove yourself as a man.
dont tell me that the media does not influence our youth, nobody every used a vulcan nerve pinch, karate chopped somebody or used the phrase "giddy up motherf#cker" until they heard it or saw it in the media.
that aside, since such a large percentage of the population of minorities live in such poverty, there is of course a higher crime rate and therefore arrest and conviction rate among them.
notice the middle class and wealthy minority members do not have the same percentage of crime or arrests in their demographic.....until their kids, like white kids start watching and learning from the media.
no one race is more criminally inclined.

Perhaps it is the fact that some members of the police force are biased and seek out African-Americans. Perhaps it is the fact the have to endure sub-standard living environments in crime-ridden neighborhoods because bigots like you have hounded them throughout their time in the US spreading rumors like this.

Well, seeing as how our racist society has kept many black people in poverty for so long, it's only natural that they end up commiting crimes.
Now in terms of REAL crimes (i.e. crimes against humanity), It's mostly caused by whites (like me), war in Iraq, Holocaust, Stalin's purges, etc. etc. etc.
Peace,

Shhhhh! We live in a politicly correct society. That means you must take the path of moderation when it comes to truth.
Truth is like drinking. You can have a few, but you don't want to crash the car into a tellephone pole.
