My parents just told me that they had a child when they were 15 and gave her up for adoption. She has just located us and my parents want to know if i want to meet her. I have mixed feelings about this and would like some non judgemental opinions!

You're parents made the decision they felt was just and necessary - kudos to them. It's definitely a hard one to make. I can imagine the pain and loss they've felt for not raising her. She is your sister and unless she's a mass murderer, you should meet her. You may or may not have a sibling relationship with her but you two could become the best of friends.

Ok, when adoptees are asking on how to find their birth parents I don't recommend it. I have a friend who was adopted (it was a closed adoption) and when she found her birth mom it ruined the family. People are given up for adoption for whatever reasons and sometimes going back into their adoptive parent's lives can be traumatic.

Think cases of rape where the victim gave the child up for adoption. Would you want to see them standing on your door step 18 years down the road.

It's your choice on if you want to meet your sister or not. Good luck.

well my dad left my mom and I when she was still pregnant with me and i have always wanted to know if I had siblings , just because family is so important and it would be great to have more sisters or brothers, Its not her fault your parents did that , I am sure she wants a relationship, I mean wouldnt you ?? And also maybe she has medical questions?I think its nice to find out you have a sister , take advantage of it you 2 might have alot in common besides parents.

I can understand why you are nervous. You thought you were an only child and now, POOF, you're not.

That said, I think this could be awesome. You will have a big sister. If I were in your shoes, I'd make the most of it.

If I had a mysterious full sibling in a case like this, I would definitely want to meet her. The curiosity would kill me.
