The vet said she had worms and gave her some injection down the dogs throat. Now she wants to sleep (most of the time outside) and still doesnt eat. i am concerned. any answers would be apprefciated.

Get her to a vet quick! She sounds lethargic, depressed and probably dehydrated too.She may have a serious illness called Parvo that is fatal.Or it could be a reaction or overdose of the worm meds or if she drank standing rain water,or mud puddle water it could be a microscopic bug causing this.Get her and a stool(poop) sample to a vet quick!

Animals are pretty good with doing whatever they need to do to get better when they're not feeling well. The worm medicine is probably giving her a tummy ache. Just let her do her thing and keep an eye on her, if she starts getting worse call your vet again but if not just give her a couple days. Forgive me if I'm sounding insensitive, I've had a lot of animals and a lot of wasted trips to the vet. Actually my cat has been acting weird the past couple days and my boyfriend has been freaking out and telling me that I don't care about the cat because I didn't rush him to the vet so he called the vet today and you know what the vet told him? Leave the cat alone and if it gets worse bring him in (the cat was sleeping a lot and moping around). I loved telling him "I told you so". Don't worry so much, just give her a couple days to get acclimated and hopefully she'll be fine. OH!! Make sure that she's drinking though, very important, if she doesn't really want to eat or do anything else just make sure she drinks lots of water.

number 1 there is no injection down throat that we give to dogs for any kind of deworming. there is an injection that is give in SQ ( under the skin) its for tape worms. we use liquids that are given orally (by mouth) and pills that are also given orally. you should be concerned about your dog. the shelters do the best that they can do but not all dogs that leave are healthy. the stress of going to a new home and meeting new people can cause problems that were hidden to show up a day or too after getting the dog home, and also some infections and viruses take a time to incubate. your dog needs to go back to the vet for treatment if she has not been eating or drinking she may need some fluid therapy and maybe some antibiotics. good luck dogs are wonderful people.

I am the owner of an adopted pet that is a parvo survivor. When you rescue a dog from a shelter there is a very good chance they came home with worms and possible other viruses. Contact your vet and get a better work up on the dog. I personally have dealt with dogs with worms and usually they come out of the worst part of it in 2 days. Make sure the vet checks for parvo and also heart worm. Also make sure they do not charge an arm and leg for this second visit. A good vet should know to check for certain viruses and problems especially when you are dealing with a shelter animal. Good luck

Vet-trip. Probably still has worms. As you got it from the pound, it may have already been infected, and you're just seeing it now. I'd try to call the pound to see if they did an examination on the dog (most should) and see if it had any other health problems as well.

first of all I am sure there was no INJECTION down the throat, it was probably a liquid dewormer in a syringe with NO NEEDLE!! Second of all it can take a while for the dewormer to work. Your dog probably feels sick due to the intestinal parasites. If your dog does not eat soon I would take him back to the vet for observation he could have some other medical issues

Depending on the age and other factors, it could be many things. If you are dealing with a puppy, go to the vet NOW. It could be parvo or worse.

If it is not a puppy, go to the vet first thing tomorrow. If he gives you no plan of action, go to a different vet.

Failure to eat is one thing, but lethargy and weakness (not wanting to go for a walk) is a Very Bad Sign. Don't wait.

Normal after worming..the worm meds are poison, and your dog is recovering . It will eat when it is hungry, but leave it outside ... the dead worms will be evacuated when the dog goes outside. Clean up the mess..it may be runny, for it could contain viable worm eggs. Diluted chlorox will kill any worm eggs in it. Good luck.

Sometimes the medicine the vet gives them for worms can make them sleepy. If she's not better tomorrow, call the vet. If she gets worse, take her to an emergency vet.

Make a vet appointment. Shelters are full of viruses and the dog could have contracted one and is now showing symptoms. If caught early, it will spare the dog extra sickness!!!
