This is a question that much greater minds than you'll find around here have thought about for a long time.

I only know a few things: First, that God is good and just. And second, that I don't see the whole picture. Maybe the sick child will avoid some greater harm. Maybe "preventing" the illness would have required even more suffering. Perhaps humans have so screwed up the world that sickness is unavoidable and God bears the pain for a suffering child so that he can have that child eternally. I don't know. But I do know that God is near to those who suffer and gives comfort to the broken hearted. And that he's going to burn up this entire broken world, bring justice and life, and make it new.

I also know that the compassionate heart of God is ripped up way more than we can imagine by the suffering in this world.

Well, that's why they are born. To change that. You see, God is merciful just for letting us come to this earth and recieve bodies. Those who deal with trials and tribulations are blessed, because if they can pull through, when they raise up, they will be strong and ready to take on the world. I believe that there must needs be opposition in all things, because if we could not taste the bitter, we would not know the sweet. It may seem harsh that they are born that way, but it's what God knows is best for them. It's where they need to be. Think of how many people in history rose up into life to become amazing politicians, religious leaders, civil right leaders, and even simpler things, lawyers, artists, writers, comedians, teachers, NBA NFL and MLB players. It's true that its miserable that these children have to live the lives that their parents laid out for them because of stupid mistakes. But that's the beauty of free agency. They have the choice to be different when they grow up. Those often times make the best and strongest people in the world.
It's like my little sister. She was born autistic, but I tell you, she is so amazing. She loves everyone no matter what mistakes they make. She's a blessing in our lives and none of us would be who we are without her. The thing is, the mercy of God allows them to be saved no matter what.
There will never be no sickness or poverty on this earth, because there always has been and always will be. This doesn't always mean punishment. The thing is, you have to remember Job. Nobody was tried as much as he was, yet he stayed strong and held on, and God blessed him with double of everything he had before he lost it all. Such things are not punishment, but a test of faith, and if they are endured, great blessing will be given to those who have succeeded.
That's my opinion anyway...

My sister~In the Bible (John 9:1-3) , there was a man who was blind from birth. The disciples asked Jesus, what sin did his parents commit for him to be born blind? Jesus said "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him." As God has known you before you were in your mother's womb, He knew what His plan was for you, as He did this man. His weakness would be a testimony to the power of God. The man gained his sight and became a witness of Christ. We are all "born in sin" my sister, since Adam. This is why, no matter what we feel is just "in us to be" the Bible says we must be Born Again.

God Bless you and keep you...

Actually, we are all born with sin. When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, it caused all human beings to be born with sin. That is why Jesus came to this earth to free us of sins. The Bible also says that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. If all have sinned, then we were born with sin. AS to why people are born sick... It's not God's fault. It's Satan's. Therefore, we must ask GOd for healing and/or for prosperity. The Bible says that if we delight ourselves in the Lord, then He will give us the desires of our heart. If being healed is a desire or having prosperity is a desire, then God will give it to us as along as we delight ourselves in Him.

Well... it could be a lot of things... if someone decides to do "it" they're doing something that can make them become pregnant... that's one... Also it can be the fault of the parents... maybe the parents take drugs, drink, and do harmful stuff to their body causing bad conditions for the baby's growth. There's a lot of possibilities... It also depends on perspective... are you Christian?

Because of the DEVIL!!!

In all seriousness, nobody really knows why some people are born this way. It is very sad and really not able to be logically explained by anyone.

The wages of sins is death. Innocent die or get harmed because of sins of others or environmental sins.

It doesn't seem fair but that is the way it is.

Assuming that God is just, he would have to reward them in an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth fashion. Perhaps their afterlife reward will be far greater than ours.
