Okay, so I'm seriously considering piercing my bottom lip twice (a snakebite). The problem is, I'm 14, and my parents have already said no a million times. I'm thinking about doing it anyway, without their permission, and then taking it out during the day when they see me, and just putting it in at night so the holes don't seal up. I have a friend who does piercings for a living, so I could get it done anytime I want. I'm an ideal daughter really. I've never done anything wrong in the past. I get straight As, my parents love me, I'm not a messed up kid or anything like that. I just really, really want to do this.....any advice for me? If you were a parent, and you found out your child had done this, what would you do?

I have a friend who does piercings for a living. He'd do it for me.

If you were my daughter and you did it anyway?
I would be more upset that you went behind my back and lied than I would be over the actual piercing.
If they've told you not to do it, then don't do it. Wait until you're 18 and have a job making your own money and get your own place. Then if you still want to do it (by then you'll be in the real world and in the work force) go ahead.
Until then, as long as you're living at home and relying in your parents support, you have to respect them and live by their rules, sweetheart. Hang in there. You'll probably be over this phase by then anyway.

If my child did that after me telling them no... I think I would wait until they were at school then go in their room with boxes and trash bags and bag up everything in there cept the furniture..leaving only the furniture, a pair of PJ's, and three outfits..my choice, from last years wardrobe of course. Then when they got home and seen what happened I would gently remind them how irresponsible they were for defying me and they had chosen to make a really bad decision..so in taking all their belongings away I take all decisions away. You would be completely grounded as you have now lost all trust in your parents. What you wear is now my choice and so on. You would be grounded until you prove you are again trust worthy, or the holes sealed up which ever I decided to be enough punishment. Now, for the fact that you would be basically ruining my child's face (I don't care that you are said child I created you-you're mine) with holes and hence scars...that would be a really hard one to grasp.

My daughter is 16 and doesn't want any other piercings other then her ears right now. She is what you call Goth...she too gets straight A's and is a great person. I feel that clothes nor piercings or make-up or hair, is the person. It is a reflection of what the person is "into". Not who they are. That is judging a person by what they look like instead of who they are. Maybe you can come up with a agreement with them.

You would be grounded for a long time. In most states you have to be 18 to get a piercing.

What you think is cool now, is not necessarily going to be cool in a few years honey. Your parents are only trying to protect you. And quite frankly, I think you should listen, they do know best. I also wouldn't let this guy do the peircings, especially if you know him. If you parents find out, they can sue him, you are a minor. It stinks, I know, but in four more years, you'll be able to do whatever you want to your body....just be patient.

If I were your parent I would make sure that the holes grew closed again. Your friend could end up with some legal issues if he does that to you.

To answer with a question:
- Do you honor your parents?

... don't you think it'd be worth it to wait and SHOW your parents that you love them and honor their authority? This is something that you could do later in life with little or no regret.

I know that I did some stupid things in my life that I wish I didn't. I think that this would be a way to show your parents how much you really respect them. Please wait until you are old enough.

The bottom line is are you willing to disobey your parents. Once you break their rules and trust your life will change and are you willing to accept that type of change.

I'm a parent and I'd be really mad. They told you no, so just abide by it. If you still want it at 18, and I bet you don't, you can do it.
