P L E A S E don't use tomato juice!!!. What a freaking mess, and if you don't get 100% washed off.........well, have you ever smelled rancid tomatoes??? I'm a groomer, and someone brought in a dog that they had used tomato juice on, several days before. They didn't get it all off and the dog lived outside in 100 degree heat. They just couldn't figure out why the dog smelled worse than the skunk. This was once a white poodle, now it was pink. I smell lots of odors in my job, but I thought I would vomit before I got all of this tomato juice off. The absolute best thing to get odor off is baking soda and peroxide. Shampoo your dog with regular dog shampoo once just to get the dirt off, (please don't use dish washing liquid, there is a reason they call it detergent!!!) Then, lather the dog again. Take a cup and mix baking soda and peroxide, you don't need a recipe, just make it the consistency of like....gravy, and don't mix it in a container with a lid...................BOOM! Pour it over the shampoo and rub it in. Mix up as much as you need, it's really cheap! If you do this outside, let the dog run around for a while, the longer it is on, the better it works, but at least 15 minutes. This is what we use to get skunk odor off dogs. It works better than any odor shampoo we have ever tried. We live in OK. and we have lots of skunks. Use 3% peroxide, like you get in the pharmacy or Wal-mart, this will NOT bleach out dark colored dogs. Please don't get in eyes!!!!! Good luck.

This works on skunk smell so it should work on any stinky smell I would think.
The trick is to mix 1 pint (US) hydrogen peroxide with 1/4 cup baking
soda and 3-4 tablespoons of kitten/puppy safe shampoo. Bathe the animal
in this mixture and let the mixture sit on the animal for a minimum of
15 minutes (this should be done under supervision as to discourage the
pet from ingesting any of the concoction. Also, DO NOT MAKE THIS STUFF
UP IN ADVANCE as it does produce a gas which will burst a closed
container). I would also caution the use of this on black coated animals
as hydrogen peroxide os a natural bleach and will tend to "brown-out"
some coats, (but that's better than smelling skunk).
If you are going to use ay feminine hygiene products, (ie. Massengil or
Cupids Quiver) allow it to sit on the pet for 15-30 minutes before
rinsing it out (this is an old groomers trick).

If your dog smells particularly bad, you may need an odor-reducing shampoo. Gold Medal makes a good deodorizing shampoo that should be lathered and left on the dog for five minutes. Rinse and repeat to get rid of nasty odors, even skunk. Gold Medal Pet Deodorizing Shampoo also has conditioners to keep the coat healthy, and retails for $8.99.Deodorizing shampoos are made particularly for this type of smell. Do not use human shampoos.; they have a different pH than dog shampoo

sorry, my german shepherd has done this on numerous occasions and the worst was at the beach when she rolled in dead rotting fish. the vet sells a shampoo for dogs who have been skunked and it works well or you can get alot of tomato juice (generic works fine) and soak the dog down in tomato juice and let stand for 10-15 minutes. rinse. then use any regular shampoo to wash it out. sometimes you have to use it two or three times (as in the case of the dead rotting fish) to get ALL the odor out. best of luck to ya.

lemon juice is also a good odor eliminator. i have a puppy that found some doo doo from a wild animal left in the backyard..she came in the house, and wow! what a mess! lol! I used regular dog soap, then some lemon juice and my own hair conditioner..it did the trick..then remove the doo-doo that was left by the guest!

Vinegar is wonderful at removing stink from just about anything (I use it to deoderize my rabbit pans). Use an all natural apple cider vinegar and sprinkle him/her with it and rub it in. Then shampoo and condition the dog as normal with an appropriate dog cleaner. It may smell of vinegar up to an hour but as he/she dries the smell will dissapear.
