in the middle of installing windows xp the screen goes blank and never comes back. I waited 3 hours but eventually turned it off and tried again, still dosent work. PLEASE HELP

Sounds like a hardware/driver conflict.
Start by unplugging all of your add-ons, and adding them one at a time after you install the software.
Be sure to get the current signed drivers off the net.

Is this a brand new hard drive install? You may need to run the HD's installation utility... they prep your hard drive for windows installation and take care of any bios/partition issues.
