Change the food you're feeding your puppy. There may be some intolerance to what is in the food.

Call the vet. Puppies that are very small and can get very dehydrated from diarrhea - quickly. Diarrhea in puppies can be caused by a number of things that I'll let you know about - of course the worst is first - 1. Parvo virus is found in puppies, the puppy would be very, very sick, bloody diarrhea, vomiting. 2. Changing food or feeding people food - this will cause diarrhea also. Don't change dog foods all at once - do it gradually over the course of a week or so. 3. Stress - bringing a new dog home, away from it's familiar surroundings. There can be many other reasons, but these come to my mind first. Be safe and call the Vet.

First you have to find out the reason for the diarrhea. To interfere with it if the diarrhea is needed to get someting out if its system just let it be. The puppy will need lots of fluid and if the diarrhea persists for a few days the dog needs to go to a vet. If you must do something about the diarrhea you can use small doses of the same drugs you would take for the same problem just keep the doses very small with consideration for the puppies weight.

Depends on the type of diarrhea. If you are new to the dog world I would suggest taking it to the vet, expecially if it has not gotten all of its shots yet as diahrrea is/can be a sign of parvo. If you are switching feeds a lot or using a cheap no brand of puppy chow, changing the feed slowly onto another can help. If you have a cosco card I suggest using the kirkland brand dog food. If it is an out door dog being in the extreme heat of summer can cause an animal to get the squirts.

If the puppy is not lethargic and is acting like his normal puppy self except for the diarrhea then I would just try adding a teaspoon of canned pumpkin (make sure it's plain and has no added spices to it) to his regular puppy food, this should clear up the problem within a couple hours.

do you feed the puppy the same food as the breeder did? Puppies have very sensitive tummys and cannot have its diet changed.
If the diarrhea is severe, take it to the vet. If not, give it a day or two, and then take it to the vet. have water available, so the puppy does not get dehydrated.

good luck.

sometimes they just have a loose stool. did you give it a different type of food than what it had been eating? did you give it a new treat? I have a new puppy and she occasionally gets a loose stool, i don't think it's anything to worry about, unless it goes on for days. usually it's what they ate. does the puppy still seem happy or playful? what about the water? when you wash the food/water bowls, make sure you use hot water, so no soap is left in the bowl. I use only the metal bowl, stainless i think, i have 2, one for the dishwasher and one for the food.i don't recommend plactic at all. only glass/ceramic or stainless. if a puppy or dog starts dehydrating, you would know it, they get listless, no energy. Good luck

PeptoBismol in a bowl...sometimes you need to add something extra to get them to eat it...I add a little cool whip or milk and the dog will lap it up. Also, make some browned ground beef in a pan and mix it with white rice. This helps calm their stomachs.

Also, don't just change the diet...this is often the cause of diarreah...if you change the diet you have to do so gradually.

feed the dog small quantities of boiled chicken breast and rice mix in one spoon of pumpkin not seasoned with the food for about 3-4 days and all should be well
