I mean in normal situations like out shopping or passing in a bar when he has already seen you with another guy?

I'm usually shy and don't catch someone's eye, but re: shopping, I was alone. Then I was on my own in a bar, on the way to the loo, but my partner was still sitting at the bar, where we had both been seen together.
I just wondered what guys think when they smile at a woman, especailly when it's with their eyes, you know what I mean...

Now this depends on a lot of variables, are you a good looking girl? if so he probably fancies you.
Have you got one stilt on one leg and not the other? if so he probably thinks you are strange.
Was it a gay bar? He is probably looking at your boyfriend and not you.
the chances are if he is smiling at you he probably Fancy's you.

thats somethnig that can go either way and depends on the guy i and the situation. The type of guy he is, what your wearing, what he's thinking. I smile at people al lthe time but ti doen't mean I liek them it's just me being friendly and the same can be said about guys. Not the type of question that can be answered straight up with a common answer for every situation.

No, I don't think so. It's generally a natural reaction to smile if someone happens to catch eye-contact with you.
I smile at a lot of people, not totally intentionally, and I'm terrified at the prospect that they all think I fancy them.

If I were you I'd check who was standing behind me. No point getting all unnecessary for nothing.
Of course it could have just been a touch of wind. You know that little smile you do just after you've passed some.
Or maybe it was a prelude to the fit of hysterics he had once you'd walked by.
My guess is, he was just being friendly.

My dear... In singapore, its very seldom us singaporeans smile at each other. I don't noe in ur country but what i think is that since its in a bar and all my guess is that everyone's really friendly and maybe i guess he finds you attractive and would love a smile back from you that's why he bothers to smile at you

There are several possibilities.
a) he fancies you.
b) he is just being friendly.
c) he didn't even see you at all but is staring into space smiling fondly about his wife/dog/football pool score/new car
d) he is laughing at you because you have toilet paper stuck to your shoe/your dress is caught up in the back of your pantyhose/your knickers just fell down
e) he is a crazed psychotic criminal measuring you up for an axe and a shallow grave

in case you think of he might fancy you, refer to him and spot what he likes. If he would not such as you, it is a robust element so you might comprehend. probability is that he grow to be looking your way in view which you're consistently watching him. you already know, you could experience while human beings are watching you...i comprehend i'm able to. in view which you're consistently getting tongue tied and clumsy around him, he must be questioning how close you're so as that he can get far off from you. once you're that petrified of him, it is a turn off to him. If a woman/woman acted like that around me does it propose she likes me or is strange?

A man should always give a woman passing him a small smile.
It's an acknowledgement of their feminity and attractiveness, not an invitation or a question.

As a guy I know beyond a reasonable doubt that he is head over heels for you. I can say that he is imagining himself with you instead of the other guy. If that isn't the case he is letting you know that your very attractive.
