Because there's been negative propaganda floating around about witchcraft for centuries and that sort of negative imagery associated with witchcraft and the occult isn't going to go away anytime soon, especially with religious institutions and parents teaching their kids from the get go that all witchcraft is evil and Satanic.

My advice: Just keep reading the books and don't pay attention to what other people say. And pray to whoever you want. Don't worry about what other people say about that.

I would like to add to the answers that you have received so far and hasten to tell you that Witchcraft and Wicca are NOT the same thing. Wicca is a religion, Witchcraft is a craft which is sometimes also practiced by Wiccans, bu t not all Witches are Wiccans. I am a Witch but not a Wiccan. If you a interested in Witchcraft but not in Wicca, then steer clear of Scott Cunningham's publications. I suggest that you read "Witchcraft: A Beginner's Guide" by Teresa Moorey. It gives a lot of information in a small book, and answers FAQs very well. It is available online.

First of all, you have to realize that the majority of the US population is Christian and that our government is run by people of that faith (well most of it). So that will filter into the daily lives of all US citizens whether they are Christian or not. As far as witch craft is concerned, it is because of the whole "witch" part of it. Casting spells, conjuring spirits and all that is against many aspects of Christianity. Also throughout history witches have had a bad reputation so they aren't widely accepted in certain places. As far as the harry potter books and any other fiction novel of the like are concerned, people frown upon it because of the reasons stated above. Also because they feel it influences people to be bad, heathenish, and promotes the so called pagan ideals. They forget how to take it for what it is, which it is a 'fiction' novel.

people frown on witchcraft because for the last 1500 years christians have been uesing it as a tool of fear to promote their religion. and calling us devil worshipers and evil cultists.

if you school is in america and they do not allow any religious symbolism then they are legally in the right, but if they allow people to wear christian symbols they can not stop you from wearing a penticle or any other symbol that you choose to represent your religion. '

our culture is based on christianity but that is because christianity is the vast majority in this country. however there are still laws in place that keep the majority form endangering the rights of the minority.

Because witchcraft is generally associated with evil and hurting people. Harry Potter is a book, which is not really about witchcraft but about a fun kind of magic. Actual witchcraft is evil.

Paganism and Wicca have been around a hell of a lot longer than Christians. They have been trying to eliminate our religions for years. They teach that it is bad and unacceptable. Believe who you believe in. Blessed Be
