The TiVo can work with Dish and other satellite systems, but it requires an IR Blaster (which sends out infa-red signals like a remote) or a Serial cable (which may or may not be available on your DISH receiver) to change the channels on the DISH network box.

Currently, standalone TiVos can only record standard definition programming, but an upcoming TiVo (the Series 3) will record high definition programming. The Series 3 is designed for cable companies (and some phone companies selling FiOS TV service) due to its reliance on CableCards, a standard not adopted by satellite providers.

Dish network has its own DVR product. It is not a TiVo but works like one.

in my view I have Dish community yet i have been given so p***ed very last nite even as it became raining cuz i couldnt watch the Yanks vs Braves interest because of satelite signal loss... i wager i'd say digital cable even even with the undeniable fact that ive in no way tried it.
