Ok, so I just got braces. I had to extract a tooth. Now it's been bleeding for quite a while. It's been bleeding for 6 hours! When will it stop, and when can I eat again.

I just posted this for someone else, but pay attention to the part about rolling up the gauze to fit all the way down to your gums...

Bite on the gauze until bedtime! When you place new gauze on the sites, be sure that you have rolled it up tight enough that it will fit between your remaining teeth and actually make some pressure on your gums where the teeth were removed. If you just "bite on the gauze" without doing this, it is a waste of time.

You can expect to bleed a "fair amount" for an hour or so, but this will slow to a trickle soon after that. By bedtime, you should not have any real bleeding at all, but you may have a tiny trickle in your saliva that will look like blood when you spit it out. Unless you see rich, red blood, this is also normal.

Just take it easy tonight and tomorrow and you'll be fine.

since you just had your tooth extracted and it's been bleeding for that long, you probably should wait until morning to eat anything it could cause the bleedind to get worse, relax in a chair tilt your head very slightly back with a pillow and do not be doing any activities even if the bleeding subsides later tonight,it will be very sensitive. The bleeding should stop soon if not you need to call your dentist as soon as possible, give it a little longer.

Is it a heavy or a light bleed? If it's heavy, go back to the dentist or hospital. If it's a light bleed, keep the cotton in your mouth and firmly in the hole. It should have stopped hours ago, but it will keep 'bleeding' a little, and I mean changing the cotton about every half hour or hour, and gradually less and less.

Just keep biting down an gauze until a clot forms. I had my tooth extracted a while ago. DO NOT RINSE YOU MOUTH WITH WATER FOR THE FIRST 24 HRS UNTIL A CLOT FORMS. DON'T LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE!!! Wait until a blood clot forms before you rinse cause if you rinse you could lose the clot and you'll get a dry socket which HURTS LIKE HELL.

If it is still bleeding after 6 hours you should go back to your dentist. If the dentist is closed go to the emergency room

Go to a dentist... NOW! A prolonged bleeding like that is classified as hemorrhage and has serious consequences (the most serious is death) if not stopped immediately.

I know this sounds gross, but, put a tea bag on the spot and bite down on it for a few minutes it will stop the bleeding. If your not numb you can eat.
