pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelin, it's a digestive enzyme, breaks down proteins. similar to the payapa enzyme papain.

It's the acid, Pineapples are known for that. It cleanzes your system from fat and gives the emune system a Boost. It is a good food to eat when you have a cold or flew, natural remody. It's also used in some cleaning products. The Acid helps kill germs. Kinda like Vinagur,...but that's a different story... Pineapple is Awesome. Enjoy.

It’s a mild form of allergic reaction to the acid in the pineapple. I have the similar problem when I eat kiwi. First my lips start to burn, then my tongue feels fizzy, then my lips start to peel and bleed. I can deal with my tongue feeling fizzy, but I can’t deal with my lips burning, peeling and bleeding. I have to put ice on my tongue to calm down the burning. When I eat kiwi I cut it into small pieces so it does touch my tongue. If sort of funny, I never had kiwi until a year ago and I had to ask my mother what was wrong with me and she told me it was an allergic reaction. I like the fruit but not when it touches my lips.

I had a similar pineapple to the one you're describing.
I believe the pineapple is just beginning to turn the sugars into alcohol (fermenting).
I threw out the rest of the pineapple and bought another one.
When choosing a pinepple choose one that is heavy, smells fragrant, large uniformed eyes on the skin and not too soft on the outside.
If all else fails just buy them canned. Less waste and takes out the guesswork. Ripe all year long.

people sometimes react differently to the vitemens contained in fruit when they eat it. The reaction might not be the same evey time. For example my ear canals sometimes itch when I eat a banana. But it does not always happen, cause I love bananas. Maybe your allergic to them?

Sounds like a possible allergic reaction. I've eaten pineapple on numerous occasions and never once had anything like that occur.

It is because of all the acid in the fruit. Don't worry it goes away and it is so worth it. There is nothing better then fresh pinapple.
