He can definitely go without a date - not a big deal, ESPECIALLY if he is the best man (he'll be busy!)
Don't waste your vacation time unless YOU want to go.
Before and during the ceremony you won't even sit with him (since he's in the wedding). He will likely travel to the reception with the wedding party and you'll have to find your own way, and once you're at the reception he'll have to eat at a different table away from you. You'll only get to see him after dinner is over. Trust me - he will survive without a date!

How long have you two been together and how serious is your relationship?
Explain to him how you feel. Tell him that while you would love to go, it's just not practical. Escorting him isn't really an issue. He will be very busy, and his responsibilities are vast as a best man. He won't have as much time as he thinks. He won't be sitting with you during the ceremony, he might not be seated at the same table as you at the reception, he'll be required to dance with the maid of honor and the bride (at least), and a million other details that would leave you high and dry.
Since you are so obviously reluctant to go, I wouldn't. You sound like you really aren't interested in the wedding to begin with, which is understandable. It's not something that you what to be at, so it may overshadow the fun of going. While a wedding can be a great experience, you should only attend when you want to be there. The time off work, the travel expense, the clothing required to attend, and the hotel can all add up to a lot of money. You shouldn't have to spend several hundred dollars for something you care so little about.

If this is a big fancy wedding with dancing at the reception, you'll probably want to go. He'll be lonely without you and feel out of place! It stinks to go to a wedding alone. Going to a wedding can also be a fun time to bond with your partner, and it's romantic! Plus you'll get to meet a lot of his family and friends.
The best man in a wedding is quite important--he stands beside the groom and usually holds onto the bride's ring for safekeeping. He'll be right up there, front-and-center, and he probably wants you to be there to share in the special day. It'd be a shame for him to get all dressed up and handsome and not have you there to see him!

The bestman is the most important guy to the man getting married because he asked the bestman to honor him by standing up and witnessing this great occassion. Now as an escort of someone who will be required to dance with bridesmaids, bride, mother of the bride, etc. you could be a little bored. Also think about this since you are going to a wedding for his godson and his family will probably bbe there so it is meating the parents. Are you ready to take that step because it makes the realtionship more serious.

Please talk to your boyfriend about your concerns about your vacation time and how important it is to him that you come with him.
Lana is right. As best man he has a lot of responsibilities that will take him away from you for most of the day. Pictures, prep, pre-ceremony, ceremony, and probably the first hour of the reception. If you don't know anybody there, you will be by yourself for several hours.

No it is not that important if it is only his god son getting married. Explain to him that you dont have to money or time to go to the wedding and just thank him for inviting you but say no.
