The day of rest always been Saturday according to the Bible, dictionaries, encyclopedias, calendars and etc.

The Sabbath is from Friday Evening to Saturday Evening; Jews still keep it as some christians. No work is to be done this day.
Jesus himself told us to keep this day (John 4:22-24).
"Ye worship ye know not what; we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews." John 4:22
Notice Jesus was saying that we should worship Saturday like the Jews.
Look Sabbath up in Encyclopaedia Americana, Vol.24, pp.68-69.
The Calendar also tells us the 7th day is Saturday.

If you look up Genesis 1:8; it tells us that the evening and morning were the second day. Lev.23:32 says from evening to evening to celebrate the Sabbath.
GENESIS 2:2-3 "AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY GOD ENDED HIS WORK WHICH HE HAD MADE; AND HE RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORK WHICH HE HAD MADE. AND GOD BLESSED THE THE SEVENTH DAY, AND SANCTIFIED IT: BECAUSE THAT IN IT HE HAD RESTED FROM ALL HIS WORK WHICH GOD CREATED AND MADE." {sanctify = to set apart; make holy}
EXODUS 20:8-11 "REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY, TO KEEP IT HOLY. SIX DAYS SHALT THOU LABOUR, AND DO ALL THY WORK: BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: IN IT THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THY CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES: FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, THE SEA, AND ALL THAT IN THEM IS, AND RESTED THE SEVENTH DAY: WHEREFORE THE LORD BLESSED THE SABBATH DAY, AND HALLOWED IT." {the 4th Commandment}
REV.14:7 "SAYING WITH A LOUD VOICE, FEAR GOD, AND GIVE GLORY TO HIM; FOR THE HOUR OF HIS JUDGEMENT IS COME; AND WORSHIP HIM THAT MADE HEAVEN, AND EARTH, AND THE SEA, AND THE FOUNTAINS OF WATER."{fear God means reverence him; also this text points back to the 4th Commandment}
LEV.23:3 "SIX DAYS SHALL WORK BE DONE: BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF REST, AN HOLY CONVOCATION; YE SHALL DO NO WORK THERIN: IT IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD IN ALL YOUR DWELLINGS."
DEUT.5:12-14 "KEEP THE SABBATH DAY TO SANCTIFY IT, AS THE LORD THY GOD HATH COMMANDED THEE. SIX DAYS SHALT THOU LABOUR, AND DO ALL THY WORK: BUT THE SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH OF THE LORD THY GOD: IN IT THOU SHALT NOT DO ANY WORK, THOU, NOR THY SON, NOR THY DAUGHTER, THY MANSERVANT, NOR THY MAIDSERVANT, NOR THINE OX, NOR THINE ***, NOR ANY OF THINE CATTLE, NOR THY STRANGER THAT IS WITHIN THY GATES: THAT THY MANSERVANT AND THY MAIDSERVANT MAY REST AS WELL AS THOU."
{Jesus's Example= "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:..-1PETER 2:21}
LUKE 4:16 "AND HE CAME TO NAZARETH, WHERE HE HAD BEEN BROUGHT UP: AND, AS HIS CUSTOM WAS, HE WENT INTO THE SYNAGOGUE ON THE SABBATH DAY, AND STOOD UP TO READ."
MARK 2:23-28 "AND IT CAME TO PASS, THAT HE WENT THROUGH THE CORN FIELDS ON THE SABBATH DAY; AND HIS DISCIPLES BEGAN, AS THEY WENT, TO PLUCK THE EARS OF CORN. AND THE PHARISEES SAID UNTO HIM, BEHOLD, WHY DO THEY ON THE SABBATH DAY THAT WHICH IS NOT LAWFUL? AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, HAVE YE NEVER READ WHAT DAVID DID, WHEN HE HAD NEED, AND WAS AN HUNGRED, HE, AND THEY THAT WERE WITH HIM? HOW HE WENT INTO THE HOUSE OF GOD IN THE DAYS OF ABIATHAR THE HIGH PRIEST, AND DID EAT THE SHEW BREAD, WHICH IS NOT LAWFUL TO EAT BUT FOR THE PRIESTS, AND GAVE ALSO TO THEM WHICH WERE WITH HIM? AND HE SAID UNTO THEM, THE SABBATH WAS MADE FOR MAN, AND NOT MAN FOR THE SABBATH: THEREFORE THE SON OF MAN IS LORD ALSO OF THE SABBATH." {The Pharisees thought his disciples were breaking the Sabbath by plucking and eating corn; but Jesus told them it wasn't work. Jesus healed on the sabbath as helped people. On the Sabbath day you can even warm meals as boil water for oatmeal on the Sabbath. The work that you cannot do is cooking meals because it takes an hour or hours to cook or by staying in the fields to do hard labor or cleaning, shopping in the store, eating at restaurants and etc. The Pharisees were putting their laws on people. But Jesus came back to them, when he said "the Sabbath was made for man".}
{Apostles kept the Sabbath--Eph.2:20}
ACTS 17:2 "AND PAUL, AS HIS MANNER WAS, WENT IN UNTO THEM, AND THREE SABBATH DAYS REASONED WITH THEM OUT OF THE SCRIPTURES."
ACTS 18:4 "AND HE REASONED IN THE SYNAGOGUE EVERY SABBATH, AND PERSUADED THE JEWS AND THE GREEKS."
Now let's see if the Catholics know when the seventh day is.
"Ques.--Which is the Sabbath day?
"Ans.--Saturday is the Sabbath day.
"Ques.--Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
"Ans.--We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday."--Peter Geiermann, The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine (1946 ed.), p.50. Geiermann received the "apostolic blessing" of Pope Pius x on his labors, Jan.25,1910. [bible readings pg.194]
"The Catholic Church...by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday."--The Catholic Mirror, official organ of Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893.

The Anti-Christ is the "lawless one"; the "man of sin" which "opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped..." 2Thess.2:3-4
DANIEL 7:25 tells us "HE SHALL SPEAK GREAT WORDS AGAINST THE MOST HIGH, AND SHALL WEAR OUT THE SAINTS OF THE MOST HIGH, AND THINK TO CHANGE TIMES AND LAWS..."

GENERAL CATHOLIC CATECHISM
You said, "WHY DOES IT MATTER". It does when it comes down to it; you either have God's Seal(Rev.7:2-3) of the Sabbath Saturday or Satan's Mark(Rev.13:18; Rev.14:8-10; Deut.17:3) Sunday--the day of the sun.
It does matter what day you rest and worship on; God never changed the day, man tried to. You rather follow (Matt.15:9)man or (Joshua 24:15)God? Yes the Bible says in Exod.31:13,17 "...VERILY MY SABBATHS YE SHALL KEEP: FOR IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND YOU THROUGHOUT YOUR GENERATIONS; THAT YE MAY KNOW THAT I AM THE LORD THAT DOTH SANCTIFY YOU. IT IS A SIGN BETWEEN ME AND THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL FOR EVER: FOR IN SIX DAYS THE LORD MADE HEAVEN AND EARTH, AND ON THE SEVENTH DAY HE RESTED, AND WAS REFRESHED."
**************************************************************
Now there are other Sabbaths too; they're called Sabbath Feast Days. They are mentioned in the Bible too. LEV.23}
JESUS & THE APOSTLES KEEP THE SABBATH FEAST DAYS.
JOHN 7:2,14 "NOW THE JEWS' FEAST OF TABERNACLES WAS AT HAND. NOW ABOUT THE MIDST OF THE FEAST JESUS WENT UP INTO THE TEMPLE AND TAUGHT."
MARK 14:12 "AND THE FIRST DAY OF UNLEAVENED BREAD, WHEN THEY KILLED THE PASSOVER, HIS DISCIPLES SAID UNTO HIM, WHERE WILT THOU THAT WE GO AND PREPARE THAT THOU MAYEST EAT THE PASSOVER?."
{The Apostles kept the Sabbath Feast Days}
ACTS 2:1 "AND WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS FULLY COME, THEY WERE ALL WITH ONE ACCORD IN ONE PLACE."
ACTS 20:6 "AND WE SAILED AWAY FROM PHILIPPI AFTER THE DAYS OF UNLEAVENED BREAD, AND CAME UNTO THEM TO TROAS IN FIVE DAYS; WHERE WE ABODE SEVEN DAYS."
ACTS 20:16 "FOR PAUL HAD DETERMINED TO SAIL BY EPHESUS, BECAUSE HE WOULD NOT SPEND THE TIME IN ASIA: FOR HE HASTED, IF IT WERE POSSIBLE FOR HIM, TO BE AT JERUSALEM THE DAY OF PENTECOST."
ROM.5:11 "AND NOT ONLY SO, BUT WE ALSO JOY IN GOD THROUGH OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, BY WHOM WE HAVE NOW RECEIVED THE ATONEMENT."
1COR.5:6-8 "YOUR GLORIFYING IS NOT GOOD. KNOW YE NOT THAT A LITTLE LEAVEN LEAVENTH THE WHOLE LUMP? PURGE OUT THEREFORE THE OLD LEAVEN,{bread, sin, corn,dust and dirt---(Lev.23:14)leavening agents are yeast, baking soda and baking powder}THAT YE MAY BE A NEW LUMP, AS YE ARE UNLEAVENED. FOR EVEN CHRIST OUR PASSOVER IS SACRIFICED FOR US: THEREFORE LET US KEEP THE FEAST, NOT WITH OLD LEAVEN, NEATHER WITH THE LEAVEN OF MALICE AND WICKEDNESS; BUT WITH THE UNLEAVENED BREAD OF SINCERITY AND TRUTH."
1COR.16:8 "BUT I WILL TARRY AT EPHESUS UNTIL PENTECOST."
1THESS.4:16 "FOR THE LORD HIMSELF SHALL DESCEND FROM HEAVEN WITH A SHOUT, WITH THE VOICE OF THE ARCHANGEL, AND WITH THE TRUMP OF GOD: AND THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST:..." {feast of trumpets}
{7th Day Sabbath & God's Feasts in both kingdoms of heaven}
ISAIAH 66:22-23 "FOR AS THE NEW HEAVENS AND THE NEW EARTH, WHICH I WILL MAKE, SHALL REMAIN BEFORE ME, SAITH THE LORD, SO SHALL YOUR SEED AND YOUR NAME REMAIN.AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS, THAT FROM ONE NEW MOON TO ANOTHER, AND FROM ONE SABBATH TO ANOTHER, SHALL ALL FLESH COME TO WORSHIP BEFORE ME, SAITH THE LORD."
ZECHARIAH 14:1,16-19 "BEHOLD, THE DAY OF THE LORD COMETH, AND THY SPOIL SHALL BE DIVIDED IN THE MIDST OF THEE. AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS, THAT EVERY ONE THAT IS LEFT OF ALL THE NATIONS WHICH CAME AGAINST JERUSALEM SHALL EVEN GO UP FROM YEAR TO YEAR TO WORSHIP THE KING, THE LORD OF HOSTS, AND TO KEEP THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES. AND IT SHALL BE, THAT WHOSO WILL NOT COME UP OF ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH UNTO JERUSALEM TO WORSHIP THE KING, THE LORD OF HOSTS, EVEN UPON THEM SHALL BE NO RAIN.
AND IF THE FAMILY OF EGYPT GO NOT UP, AND COME NOT, THAT HAVE NO RAIN; THERE SHALL BE THE PLAGUE, WHEREWITH THE LORD WILL SMITE THE HEATHEN THAT COME NOT UP TO KEEP THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES.
THIS SHALL BE PUNISHMENT OF EGYPT, AND THE PUNISHMENT OF ALL NATIONS THAT COME NOT UP TO KEEP THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES."
{So if you see Sabbath Feasts Calendar; it will explain all of these. Now for example:}
Before the Passover; you have to get the leaven out of your dwelling.
Passover of 2007 is the evening of April 1. What you do is prepare--do blessing of passover--drink wine in a small glass followed by unleavened bread; you also do footwashing; this is all done in your house with believers of family or church members--Also you say sorry for your sins before you partake of the Lord's Supper. 1Cor.11:20-28.
Unleavened Bread--First and last day is Holy, so no work; you do worship that day!
No bread, dust, dirt or corn anywhere til Unleavened Bread has past.
Pentecost--receive God's Spirit. It is a holy day; you do worship that day.
Feast of Trumpets--Worship and Holy Day.
Day of Atonement(Yom Kippur)--a day for fasting and repentance; abstain completely from food and drink; keep holy, do worship--Lev.23:7-8.
Feast of Tabernacles--the first day & 8th day is holy; do worship
Usually you can go to a Motel, seperate dwelling place or tent you can live in during this period. My family do the tent during the feast.
***There's a free booklet called "The Holy Days--God's Master Plan" from my church; you just have to request it. You can look up this site:

Now I seen in the answers; they always try to make the Sabbath invalid by saying Jesus rose that day or quoting Colossians & Ephesians to say the Sabbaths no longer exist. They better read again; they're misinterpeting verses and leading into their own interpetation and conceit.

The Bible teaches us that one in seven days is for the Lord (EXO 20:8). In the Old Testament, God's people worshiped Him on the last day of the week = the Sabbath-day = Saturday..
But in the New Testament, the Lord's Day is on the first day of the week = Sunday. (ACT 20:7, 1CO 16:1-2, REV 1:10).
---------------------------------------------------------
http://www.biblestudy.org/gands/hdaybook/sabtruth.html
SABBATH: Is the seventh day of the Creation week.
(Genesis 2:2), = Saturday, It is the day of Sabbath rest. (Genesis 2:2; Exodus 34:21)
SUNDAY: Is the first day of the week
(Matthew 28:1).
It is the first day of six working days. (Exodus 20:9; 34:21).
"Constantine the Great made a law for the whole empire (A.D. 321) that "Sunday", should be kept as a day of rest"

The observance of the "Sabbath," the seventh day, was given to the nation of Israel at Mount Sinai by the Lord as part of the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:8-11; Deuteronomy 5:12-15). The Sabbath was to be a sign of God's covenant with Israel, a day of rest from labor, and a memorial of God's great acts of creation and deliverance. The Sabbath was a good gift of God to Israel, but it was also enforced very strictly, the penalty for deliberately doing unnecessary work on that day being death (Exodus 35:2-3; Numbers 15:32-36).
When God raised Christ from the dead in power and glory on the first day of the week, the followers of Christ were led to honor Him and the resurrection on the first day of the week. Scriptural warrant for giving special worship and honor to Christ on the first day of the week, the "Lord's Day," is found in Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2, and Revelation 1:10.
Many Christians and churches believe that worshiping and serving Christ on Sunday in commemoration of His resurrection completely fulfills the requirement of the Fourth Commandment. In this understanding, the Sabbath has been changed from the seventh day of the week to the first day because of Christ's resurrection. It is now a memorial of God's new covenant and His greater spiritual creation and deliverance of the church from sin and death.
Other Christians and churches worship on Sunday but do not believe that Sunday is a Christian Sabbath based on the Fourth Commandment. They believe that the Sabbath commandment is no longer binding upon Christians, since there was no restatement of it for Christians in the New Testament. They rather turn to Paul's admonition in Colossians 2:16-17, "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ."
We are to have a day that we come apart to worship God. It's a special day set apart for that purpose." In any case, all Christians would agree that our faith is not limited to a day, nor are we saved by being obedient to the rules of a certain day. We are saved through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; see Ephesians 2:8-9. After we receive Christ as Savior, we have God's love poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit" (Romans 5:5, NKJV), and we desire to worship and serve Him every day of the week.

A day of rest is the end of any 7-day period.
Col2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday,.. or of the sabbath days:
Sure, Constantine (Roman Emperor) arranged for a change to Sundays (325 AD) because he formerly worshiped the Sun god 'Apollo' and Jews still keep Saturdays as well as 7th day-Adventists (because it's the end of the week; Matt 28:1). Any day of rest is good and every day should be a 'rest' in God. For Jesus said 'I will give you rest' (Matt 11:28)

Actually, according to the Old Testament, Deuteronomy 31, I believe, the sabbath rest of Saturday was an old covenant sign between the Israelites and God, just like circumcision, as a sign of their covenant relationship. The Sabbath was a remembrance sign, to remind them of the covenant; circumcision was an entrance sign to demonstrate their entrance into the old covenant. It was not intended to be imposed on new covenant Christians. After the death and resurrection of Christ, all believers enter into a new covenant with two new signs; the entrance sign is now baptism, and the remembrance sign is now communion.
In the Old Testament, there were many natural, outward symbols that were spiritually fulfilled by Jesus in the New Testament. The Sabbath was one of them; outwardly man rested on the 7th day and had constant fellowship with God that day; inwardly, when the Holy Spirit came in the New Testament, we now have spiritual constant fellowship and that same sabbath rest is now offered in Christ: "Come unto me, all you that labor, and I will give you rest." Paul clearly teaches in Col. 2 and in Romans 14 that N.T. believers are no longer bound to outwardly honor new moons days or sabbath days, but taught that we entered the spiritual rest of Christ when we accepted him as Lord (Heb. 4).
When you truly study the Sabbath requirements, you will see that no one, not even the 7th day Adventists, are really keeping it. But since Jesus kept it for us, when we accept him, we are credited with the righteousness of the Old Testament law, which includes the Sabbath. According to Romans 14, We are now free to outwardly honor God with a particular day or not, according to our conscience. Sunday is not a mandated day of rest, only a traditional one established by early Christians because Christ rose on that day. Oh, there is so much more to it than we have been taught!
For more info, read "Sabbath in Crisis" by Dale Ratzlaff, a former 7th Day Adventist. He did his homework! Hope this helped...

The change from Saturday to Sunday came from Christ himself. Christ was crucified just before the Jewish Sabbath or Friday. They had to have him in the tomb before sundown on Friday because that is when their sabbath started. He then resurrected on the first day of the week of Sunday morning. Ever since then the apostles were gathered on the first day of the week and Jesus visited them. Later Paul tells Timothy not to be bothered because of people criticizing him on account of their sabbath days. They criticized the Christians because they were meeting on the first day of the week instead of the seventh day of the week. Thus, the tradition to have the sabbath on Sunday. In Spanish and Portuguese this problem is exacerbated because the word for sabbath and Saturday is the same, Sabado. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter what day we pick, as long as it is one day in seven. If you were stranded somewhere and didn't know what day it was, then you would just need to start somewhere and count every seventh day to be your sabbath. God would be okay with that since you did the best you could to obey His commandment.

If you believe in the bible, then it's got to be saturday, Yes, according to the bible, shabbat IS a sign between god and his chosen people, and btw, the bible's god's chosen people are the jews, not the christians or anyone else.
Other gods have chosen their own flock, and they rest on different days, allah's on fridays, jesus's on sundays, and in india where they have a bunch of gods (and goddesses) each town's local deity has his or her own resting day. so there you never know when shops are closed when you travel around.
So you see, it's all a matter of what you choose to believe, so it all boils down to the fact that YOU are the measure of things, and in the end YOU are and/or create "god".
Isn't that nice? Peace & love to all.
