I am currently entering 10th grade. I need some advice on what classes to take. I am extremely serious about what I want to do. I have wanted to become a zoologist for 12 years of my life.

Chemistry (go as high as you can in this), Physics (covering areas of sound and vision), Biology, Math (go as high as you can in this) & English (writing & public speaking). In college, you'll have to take more of similar courses, but at a much higher level. If any of these courses are difficult for you, consider going to a jr. college for 2 years & take as many of the science courses you can THERE, because they are easier than in a university (and also less expensive, smaller classes, etc.).

In high school take the College Preparatory sequence.

To be a professional zoologist you need a college degree, probably more than one, so your task in HS is to get into college.

College is where you'll start taking courses that focus more directly on your interests.

Your best bet is to find a zoologist and speak to him or her about the career - reading & lectures are fine but pale in comparison to the real experiences of a professional - you might get a good vacation out of the deal, too!

You might want to consider a vocational education school that offers courses in animal care. Your biology and zoology courses in high school are a definite. Talk with your guidance counselor.
