Does your mother KNOW the place where your grandmother was born and died? That is where you start looking for the Birth and Death Certificates.
PS -- be aware though -- My own grandparents were born overseas in the mid to late 1800s -- and birth certificates were not issued in those locations -- so one had to check Baptismal Records or Church Records for an approximate Birth Date.

Birth certificate - She will need to call the particular state Health/ Vital statistic agency where she was born and inquire about the fee and info needed to apply for a certified copy of the birth certificate.
Death Certificate - Same thing, but the state where she died.

Funeral home would have a copy of death certificate. Unsure of birth records, you might want to try and ask your government representative for help getting it. I live in Canada and our birth certificates are on file at a provincial office. Good luck.

Dept of vital stats. Cost about 5 to 10 bucks each. You will need to provide place of death, full name of deceased, father and mothers name and some other info they will tell you about.
you can apply on line. just go to the county they were born and/or died in. I just had to apply for my husbands birth certificate in GA. Cost was $10 for certified copy. m

You need to contact the Burea of Vital Statistics for the county and state where the birth and/or death happened. Keep in mind that is the person was born in one county and died in a different county you will have to contact both counties.
