They were gone for a few months, then sporadically will come back - maybe once a week or once a month or even less. I've been working out for 10 years and have had them for years. I can't pinpoint them to a specific workout or anything else. I also eat plenty of dairy (calcium) as I heard that could be a reason.. any ideas? It is the most excruciating pain, to the point where I will wake up screaming and can't hold in the yells. I had one last night that was so bad the pain is still carrying over today when I stretch the calf.

i had the very same problem when i was weight lifting, calf cramps in the middle of the night...one way to keep cramps down is to eat banana's, for the potassium. Potassium keeps the cramps down...they even have Potassium pills out there...stay on the calcium but eat a banana a night or something high in potassium before going to bed...also invest in them pills they are a life saver.

You're probably suffering from lack of minerals, most likely calcium, magnesium or potassium. Celery is a good food for magnesium, dandelion and nettles provide potassium, but I think you can buy them as tablets at the chemist's.

Potassium is good for leg cramps. Try more potassium like bananas or a supplement.

I used to get a lot of cramps in my legs too, someone told me it could either be because my leg wasn't getting circulation or I wasn't having enough bananas. I have Bananas a lot know and no more cramps. This isn't a joke I swear.

It could possibly be a calcium or potassium deficiency or overload. If you work out a great deal it could be that you are not replace all that is lost through sweating. Or it could be soduim. There are too many possible things that it could be. It is definitely something I would definitely get checked out by a physician.
