I have a part beagle part basset hound and when I come home from school you would think that I had been gone for a year. She acts completely nuts for about 20 minutes, and then she just starts to lick me. I know its just a sign of love and I love her to....but how can I get her to calm down? lol, thanks for the answers!

When you get home don't acknowledge the dog for about 10 minutes. Once she calms down then go and say hello.

I can so relate to that, I have two dogs and one newly found stray puppie, and the two dogs are training her well, when Ipull in from work, they go slap crazy and there is a trail around the house from where they run around when I get home, and then they freak out when I get out of the car, and will not stop licking me and jumping on me. but The more I say no and step back the less they jump like that. It seems to be working but I'm not consistant because I love them so much and i think its so cute to get that kind of love from some animals!!!

It's simple. Every time you leave the house, the dog's total provider is now gone away from the pack, the dog can't see you, and the dog has no idea that you are ever coming back. The fact that you do, would be a pretty exciting event, wouldn't you say?

I have the SAME problem, except I have a 75 lb. pit bull, and a 40 lb. pit bull mix puppy. They go crazy when I come home from work, and I have huge purple bruises all over my legs from them jumping up to say 'hello'. I try to ignore them for a few minutes before I say 'hello' back, because someone told me that I need to let them know that I will play with them when I'M ready too. It hardly works.... so I tell them to sit and give them treats when they do... it keeps them busy for a few seconds while I get settled and put my purse down and take my shoes off. Sorry, I don't have any good advice... but at least you know you're not the only one with that problem. Hey, at least you know she loves you!

My dog Ben goes NUTZ whenever my girlfriend or I get home.

He does crazy laps all over our condo and cant get close enough to us.

I would suggest not trying to calm her down too much. She will grow out of being so excited when you come home, and you will miss it. This happened with my old dog when he got older, and I wish he still did run around all crazy when I got home when he was older.

Just remember, you mean everything to your dog, and she probably waits all day for you to get home. Not only are you her best friend, but she also counts on you to provide everything she needs.

Ha haaaa my dogs are insane!! They act like fruits when I get home. The one has to make sure she has her ball to parade around, while the other runs up and puts his head in between my legs and lifts me off the ground!!! Then they run up and down the stairs, up and down the hallway, and lick my hands and face. Gosh I love my mutts!!!!

Try walking in your house and don't really make a big scene. I find that when I have friends coming over, I have them ignore my dogs, and this seems to make them more calm. Try it out.

The house above mine had the same situation - 2 brothers (and one in each of their's female friend). My question - who's the oldest? Its not you its them and the topics they presented with them from their figure's living house to their position. one in each of them may be the daddy figure - would not may be the oldest, and its usually the more youthful. he may be the guy who has topics with the different's lady friends. Their issues at the on the spot are not purely going to flow away. they prefer area and to locate their own identities to end the kinfolk position-taking section in. Your exhibiting of 'appreciate' in ordinary words performs into it. like it or not your boyfriend desires to locate his own position - per chance with you. in ordinary words then will they both be in a position to develop.

My collie does that when I come home and even worse when my husband comes home. She jumps everywhere and all over you, cries and licks and so on. You can train her not to do this, by telling her no, refusing to pet her and so on until she sits down. I've tried it with my dog and she no longer jumps on me, but my husband thinks its cute so lets her jump all over him lol
