Do you know something scarier than "hell"? With all the deadly video games they play, almost nothing scares them...

Maybe I should tell them there is no video-games in Hell?

Thx for giving me some advice.

Hell!! Nice.
Do your children understand what hell is.. or to them, is it just something mommy or daddy use to scare and threaten them. I think you would have better luck threatening them that the boogie man is going to get them, or you're going to lock them in the closet, or Satan is at the door for them. Perhaps a more appropriate way of discipline them would be consistency.. Since they have never been to hell, its not a reasonable tool for discipline.

Because they know it's not real, just a tactic that some christians made up to scare their children into behaving well, rather than having actual conversations with them to explain why morality is a good idea.

Yeah tell them they're going to a place with no video games, cable tv, cell phones, or internet. That'll scare them! LOL

Because you don't have the authority to say if they will go to hell or not, try sticking with something that you, as a parent, do have authority to threaten them with, like being sent to their room, or being grounded from those video games.

Maybe because that makes them nervous, and sometimes people laugh when they are nervous. I am with some of the others. Scaring your kids to heaven isn't going to work. It has to be a choice they make, and I think showing them God's love is a much better tactic.

Hmmmmm... why would you threaten your children with something they cannot truly relate to? Give them hell on earth, start by taking the video games that takes away the reality of life!!! start making them learn the responsibility of their actions. Hell is only the absence of peace... Chaos?
peace

I dont think you should be threatening your children to go to hell if you are upset with them... Hell is an abstract idea anyway. They don't understand what your "Hell" is so therefore, it is not only not scary, but funny apparently. Try something concrete next time. Like a brick or something.

There are plenty of things scarier than a place that doesn't exist except in the minds of the deluded and ignorant.

It's amazing that kids are so much smarter than some adults, it seems.

I'm a teen and I don't know how old -your- kids are but if me or my friends or siblings were threatened like that we would not laugh.........anyways I guess you say "go to h***" so0o0o0o0o0o
many times to them that they think its funny......idk why you would say such thing but if your trying to punish them for doing something bad don't verbally abuse them instead why don't you just tell them that they cant watch TV or something they like to do like play with friends

Do you tend to make idle threats a lot with your children? If that is true then you are teaching them that their actions don't have consequences. How are they going to learn about eternal consequences if they don't experience any temporal ones?

I would recommend the book Positive Discipline:

Most people don't believe in hell anymore. I do believe. Tell them they will go to a place with no tv, computers, games, music videos, or anything. Just sit there all eternally bored.
