It's sort of like saying "I have 4 limbs on my one body". Consider the Trinity as parts of the whole.

That would be my guess, anyway.

The Bible shows very clearly that there is only one God, and yet that there are three personal distinctions in His complex nature, traditionally referred to as "three Persons in the Godhead"—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each is distinct from the others but never acts independently. They are one in nature and purpose. This mystery is called the doctrine of the Trinity, though that term is not used in the Bible. The teaching, however, is present in seed form in the Old Testament and is revealed explicitly in the New Testament. Note passages such as Matthew 28:19; John 10:30, 14:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14.

Our finite minds cannot understand or explain this mystery of God, which is nevertheless a fact. We must accept the truths found in the Word of God by faith even though we ourselves cannot comprehend them fully; read Hebrews 11:1,3,6 and 1 Corinthians 2:5-10;14; 13:12. It is really not surprising that the infinite God should be complex in His nature beyond the ability of finite humans to comprehend! This doctrine is absolutely essential to New Testament Christianity. Theologians have pointed out that if it were not true, the Bible would be unreliable, Christ would not be divine, and His death on the cross would not atone for our sins, being merely the death of a martyr.

The Holy Spirit is not an entity or being. The trinity is wrong! There is only the Father-God, and Jesus Christ. If people opened their eyes and read the bible with a good concordance, they may be able to find out how some religions have it wrong.
The Holy Spirit is what God uses......not a being. Saying the Holy Spirit is a being, a third entity is not only the most confusing thing I have ever heard of in religion, but it takes away from the family of God. That is, Jesus and God. Father and Son.
I went to a church most of my life when they changed their view of God and Jesus to the trinity, and I left. The sermon I heard confused me so much, and made absolutely no sense. If you diligently research and study the bible, as well as using concordances and dictionaries.....you can see that it is true---the Holy Spirit is not a being, and there is NO trinity.
And the argument that said "God created man in 'our' image'....well, Jesus Christ has always existed. He was the Word recorded in John 1. The Word has always existed. So, when God created man in His image, He was referring to 'our' meaning Himself and Jesus Christ. The spirit is simply what God uses. Like if you are baptized, you are given God's Holy Spirit. Think of it as a tool He uses rather than an entity.

If you want to say that then in Genesis the Lord says "Let us make him in our image. The Trinity is God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit. All three are God but in different forms and anyone who believes in Jehovah knows He can do anything.

God is One. But in the Hebrew the word we call "one" in English, is the Hebrew word "echad." Echad is found as Strong's Ref. # 259, and is pronounced ekh-awd'. It is a a numeral from Ref. # 0258; and is properly, united, i.e. one; or (as an ordinal) first. Notice that it means "united." You see this in God's statement about man and woman. "...and they shall be one flesh." (Genesis 2:24) The word "one" in this verse is also echad. Yet, Adam and Eve are two. But God calls them "one." Same with the Trinity. Allow me to explain this:

Tertullian, one of the early church fathers, coined the term "Trinity." The word actually means "three-ness." Tertullian was an ardent supporter of orthodoxy in the church, and was one of the greatest defenders of the historic Christian faith.

The term "Trinity" is not found in the Scriptures, but the doctrine is clearly displayed. There are many times where Jesus said of Himself that He was God. He applied the name of God, "I AM," to Himself in several passages. Here's a few examples: Matthew 14:27, Mark 6:50, Mark 13:6, Luke 21:8, John 4:26, John 6:20, John 8:24, 28, 58, and John 13:19. There are several others I have not listed. Besides this, Jesus said that He & the Father were one (John 10:30). This describes a unity, even though there are two.

The Trinity has an underlying appearance in the Old Testament as well. In Genesis, we see during creation that God said, "Let us make man in our image." and also when man sinned, God said, "...man has become as one of us, to know good and evil..." Who was He speaking to? The other persons of the Trinity. We also see that the Spirit of God hovered over the waters in the beginning, and in John 1:1-3, it clearly states that Jesus (the Word) made everything.

Another angle to pursue is the various Scriptures that demonstrate that God's attributes are present in Jesus as well as the Holy Spirit. For example, the Father is eternal (Psalm 90:2), and so is the Son (John 1:2), and so is the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 9:14). Another shared attribute is their holiness. Only God is truly holy. The Father is holy (Revelation 15:4), so is the Son (Acts 3:14), and so is the Spirit (Acts 1:8).

An ancient diagram of the Trinity can be helpful in getting your hands around the doctrine, and can be found at the link in the SOURCE list.

The Trinitarian doctrine requires much more depth of discussion than can occur here. It is important to know that we only have to believe, not necessarily understand, the Trinitarian nature of God. It is a bedrock doctrine of the Christian church. Anything else is heresy.

Early Christian thinkers were often confused regarding the nature of the Trinity. As you've already divined, a 3-in-1 is a bit of a contradition. However, if you'll read the Old Testament you will see God speaking to himself in plural terms. "Let US go down"..."Let US make man in OUR image." This is rather confusing given that God is supposed to be alone in the universe at this point. So either God has a serious multiple personality complex or someone (possibly many someones) existed with God.

The trinity does not say there are three gods, but one God who has many forms. If you look at the face of a cube, you see a square. If you see its side, a rectangle, its vertex, a triangle. He is one god more complex than can be described as a single being to our minds.

Hello Jehovah's witness. So then I assume that you at least know some Bible words since you obviously do not know your Bible. Elohim. (God) all words in the ancient Hebrew have a numerical meaning and since you are obviously so bright you know that this is 2 words Elo Him ( elo means 1 him means more than 2). Why is it that you believe that us who know the trinity believe in 3 Gods. I assume you have a Father and a Mother and then you but yet you are one family. If that is a reference to you then why is three that are one ( "I and my Father are One") in a Being that is so far beyond even our wildest imagination for understanding so hard to accept. Contact me we will discuss it...

Yes, there is only One God revealed in three ways, the Soul, the Flesh, and the Spirit.

The Soul - The Father
The Flesh - The Son
The Spirit - The Holy Spirit

Just like god, we are made in his image.

We have a soul and a body and a spirit.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that the Scriptures alone quite plainly demonstrate that Jesus and the Almighty Jehovah are separate distinct persons, and the Almighty created Jesus as His firstborn son.

(Colossians 1:15) the firstborn of all creation

(Mark 10:18) Jesus said to him: 'Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God.

(Revelation 3:14) the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God

(Philippians 2:5-6) Christ Jesus, who, although he was existing in God's form, gave no consideration to a seizure, namely, that he should be equal to God

(John 8:42) Neither have I come of my own initiative at all, but that One sent me forth

(John 12:49) I have not spoken out of my own impulse, but the Father himself who sent me has given me a commandment as to what to tell and what to speak

(John 14:28) I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am

(1 Corinthians 15:28) But when all things will have been subjected to him, then the Son himself will also subject himself to the One who subjected all things to him

(Matthew 20:23) this sitting down at my right hand and at my left is not mine to give, but it belongs to those for whom it has been prepared by my Father

(1 Corinthians 11:3) I want you to know that the head of every man is the Christ; ...in turn the head of the Christ is God

(John 20:17) I am ascending to my Father and your Father and to my God and your God.

(Deuteronomy 6:4) Jehovah our God is one Jehovah

(1 Corinthians 8:4-6) There is no God but one. For even though there are those who are called "gods," whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many "gods" and many "lords," there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him

You misunderstand. The Godhead is One, but the "divine persons" in that One Godhead is three. Yes, God is One, but Jesus the Son of God stated clearly that there is Himself, His Father, and the Holy Spirit (the Advocate) existing in the One Godhead. This is in the Scriptures as well.
Let us not forget the book of Genesis 1.2, which states, "And a wind (pnumena or spirit) of God swept over the face of the waters. And so, who was this wind, but the Holy Spirit of God. Also, note in Genesis 1.26, which states, "Then God said, "Let US make humankind in OUR image, according to OUR likeness."
Who else would God be talking to? Obviously to Himself in the Father, Son, and Spirit. And so, in scripture a Trinity is revealed to us.
However, let us go outside of Scriptures to see if creation itself gives us a sign or indication of the possibility of a Trinity.
There is water. Water comes to us in liquid form from sea and sky. Water is evaporated and is then in a gaseous form. Water can be frozen turning it into a solid form. And all the while it is the same water. And so, God even reveals a Trinity to us with creation itself.
May the Lord bless and keep you. May He let the light of His face shine upon you.
God's and your beast of burden
