I have this jar of jelly that I haven't opened yet. I'm about to move from Cleveland to Chicago and I want to take it with me. It's been in the fridge, but I haven't opened it. Since it's not been opened yet is that okay, or does the fact that it's been in the fridge all this time screw things up? I don't want to end up with rancid jelly, but it's a really good brand and I'd like to take it with me.

Jelly only needs to be refrigerated after opening. Since it's unopened, you'll be fine. A general rule of thumb I go by is to remember where it was in the grocery store. If it's only the shelf at the grocery store, it can be shelved at home. Also, many times, the label will say 'refrigerate after opening'.

I hope this helps. Have a safe trip.

P.S. If you're moving to another state and the least of your worries is jelly, you must be one unstressed individual : )

It should not hurt a thing. Keep the jelly and when you get there pop it back in the fridge. they don't keep it in the fridge in the supermarket so it should have a shelf life of what ever the use by date is. It wont go off

Nothing happens if the jar has not been opened, sometimes will even an open jar will remain fine for a while if not refrigerated, depending on the type of jelly sometimes they can be devoid of refrigeration.

There shouldn't be a problem. But how long had you had it. Because bacteria can slowly and accidently get in. If it's way past the expiration date that might be something to worry about. Otherwise just keep it out of hte sun/heat just to be on the safe side.

As long as it hasn't been opened it will be fine to keep out of the fridge.

There has been no introduction of bacteria in it so the fact that it will just be going from cold to warm will have no effect on it.

Do you remember where it was kept when you bought it?

Wasn't in cold storage was it? You are good to go.
If you had opened it it would be different. But having not opened it the shelve life should be way in the future.

No problem.

No problemo as long as it hasn't been opened, which would have let air get at it
